Trading figs on f4f

As I'm fairly new to this forum I want to be a constructive and supportive member that gives more then I take. I've certainly made mistakes and have had words with at least one long time member. I regret this and hope to move forward and contribute whenever I can.

I have made a number of friends here already and think this is an excellent forum. I've been given and given away cuttings and have traded plants and partnered on a large buy with another member. I have learned a lot and have tried to be both supportive and informative whenever possible. I've been very impressed by the generosity of my fellow members and hope to make even more friends.

I would like to ask if there are any policies written or even unspoken about trying to communicate what figs I have to trade and which varieties I'm searching for.

Is there an excepted way to offer a list or should I just start a topic and make my lists available?
Thank you for your time,
mgg

Hello mgg, I think and acceptable way would be to have "Offering List" under your wish list this way it will be there with every post with out having to search for the specific topic,

I purchased my first tree this year and it is fabulous!  LSU Purple and it is labeled Celeste!

I too have been the recipient of the generosity of fellow forum members.  I don't have any other figs to trade (yet), but I was able to offer something else to another member.

Looking forward to see what you are offering!

Hello mgginva,

One thing that helps when posting for trades is to list what you currently have available. If you looking for anything specific it is alway a good idea to list what you are looking. When I did my trades two weeks ago I had extras of two types and was open to suggestions. Those trades worked out really well and we got to swap various types around.

I say start a thread and see what happens.

As far as I know there's only been one episode of attempted theft, with underwear on the fence as evidence.  But even that was a joke.  So since we're all folks of good will, go for it.  I want, I have is a good method and has been done here many times.  I asked Jon permission before posting figs for sale and since it was handled by PM it didn't take up a lot of bandwidth.  It's always a win-win when we trade so who can complain about making people happy?  Details should be by PM, of course, especially credit card #s.    :)

How many have paypal acct?

Thanks folks for info.
Bob how does one get a hold of Jon?

Click on his ID - then click on his email address. You can get intouch with anyone here that way - unless they have blocked their pm's and/or email.

thx Gino but my email has never worked so I finally blocked it. Do you know another way?

I would guess you can find contact info here someplace. :)

I do not understand why all of a sudden a trading offer post raises so many questions? It was done on this forum many, many times before and it is not much different than a ubiquitous wish list.

The OP wants to be sure he doesn't offend anyone.  It's always a nice gesture  :)

I guess I should wade in. One of the original goals/issues was to keep the forum advertising free, as opposed to others that had ads, pop-ups with every click, etc. I was more interested in a community atmosphere, rather than a commercial enterprise. The point was to encourage the exchange of information, ideas, and experiences, so that everything doesn't have to be re-invented by everyone.

So, if you have a few plants/cuttings for free or sale, or trade: that is part of the "community" idea. If you have a plant business, get a website: that is part of being a business.

I don't think that there have been any real problems or issues thus far and I think most if not all of the members can keep it that way.

A fellow in Canada e-mailed the other day that he used rooting techniques learned from Figs 4 Fun, and now had a problem: he made too many trees. So, I told him to start a thread about his problem, and he could probably find people with too few trees that could help him solve his problem. That is how it is supposed to work.

Boris - just a southern boy trying to be polite. I don't want to end up like Dan.
thx Bob.
thx Jon. My intention was not to start a fig business, just to try and trade off some extra plants. I was just trying to follow whatever rules there might be as this site is not owned by me and as a guest I appreciate your time and the cost involved.

Jon,

The whole idea of sharing out trees is wonderful. Personally believe that trading is one of the best ways to spread the genes and information we have learned about our own trees. Also I learned several new ideas on shipping when getting the last set of cuttings in.

Bob,

You promised you weren't going to ever mention about my attempted theft!

Mike,

You showen your true colors a couple weeks ago. I think you're a cool dude. This is why I approached you with my offer. As little as it is, I am a bit picky.

Sometimes I've been wrong but I've got it right this time.

When I first started collecting different fig varieties, I made several purchases online and at a couple reputable sellers from the forum. I guess that was the maybe 15 or 20 trees. The rest came in trades or at the NE fig meetings. My collection exceeds 60 trees now. Figs are relatively easy to propagate and fig folks are very generous as are most true gardeners. This forum is the best venue for trades as it is loaded with gardening fig folks. Post your list, we are all curious as to what you have, even if we aren't going to trade. It's all good.

Thx again to all you all
and you to Rafed!
