Transplant

I just Transplanted my fig tree! I used Miracle grow potting soil, and composted material. I then gave it half strength of miracle grow fertilizer (18-18-21). The fertilizer said it was for tomatoes, and vegetables, and fruits. I was wondering should I apply lime? How much of it? What kind of lime ?

Thanks!

I use pulverized lime stone.  But of course I have a ph meter, so always check first.  My experience is that they like the alkaline side of the ph spectrum.

Lime and limestone are not the same product folks.

Limestone is primarily Calcium Carbonate and depending upon where it was mined it can contain some Magnesium Carbonates as well.  Pure limestone has a near netrual (7) pH and it WILL "SLOWLY" breakdown and react with any acids that are in the soil.  This is a good and desirable thing. It comes in several forms.......LimeSTONE chips and LimeSTONE powder. Look for the words Lime"STONE" on the package. It is hard to overdose when using LimeSTONE and IT WILL NOT raise your pH level............

On the other hand..........."LIME" is a high pH alkalne material (Calcium Oxide). It is a product  that is actually manufactured from LimeSTONE (calcined). This product will IMMEDIATLY neutralize acids and if overdosed can DRASTICALLY change the pH of your soil.

Again LIME AND LIMESTONE are not the same..............and these two products ARE NOT INTERCHANGABLE. Make sure you use the right product.
