transplant

Hi all new to figgery. have some cuttings placed in pots last fall. can i transplant into the ground or wait till they have a larger root system Thanks.

If you've got the land, put it in the ground.   Trees in the ground get huge so choose wisely.   The ones I have in the ground are enormous compared to the same cuttings still in the pot.   Something like 10x's bigger after a couple years.

What is the rush to take risk. Even in BC it is not spring yet. After a month or so the rooted cutting will have more and stronger roots and the ground in spring will be warm enough to plant it outside.

Hi My friend, Fig trees in Vancouver BC, sprout at mid of April, it is safer to plant your young plant after that.
I planted 4 young bigger Desert king fig trees just before winter with protection, 2 of them with all branches frozen damaged,  but 2 tiny young plants in unheated ATIC, it bears some figs even without leaf  now.

I typically wait until the plant is at least 3 years old and then I bury the wood as deeply as I can.  Are you in Z8?

I think we are z7 to z8

I would get advice based on the specific variety.  If you have z7 lows you may very well get some dieback and some trees may not fruit for you.  Definitely put as much wood underground as you can.
