In preparing my yard for a better garden, fig tree area, and building a greenhouse we had to remove the 3 old stumps - they were cut a few years back after they died, it is my best sunny area. It has been hard work, and truck loads of dirt and garbage being tossed to get to these huge roots. Anyway, I love finding this one bottle semi eaten by the tree. May have been there for more than 40 years. I want this area clear and ready before spring is here...

Wow, how very strange! And what a huge project, Grasa. What trees were these, those are some very large stumps and roots!
Go Grasa. Just remember to bend at the knees. What we do for our plants... Take care.
Patty they were some evergreens and I had water in my basement long before I moved in, but upon a french drain done to correct the water in my basement, I think it took the water from the 2 trees and they died, being instable. Yes. big, and all sorts of garbage burried in with it, looks like a huge fire garbage pit and a tree planted on top. It is a lot of work, but it will be nice when all my plants and figs are out there. it gets pretty sunny in that location. So I am hopeful this will pay off.
Well, I commend you, stump pulling has got to be one of the most difficult and labor-intensive jobs in the yard. Please share with us your before and after photos! Figs sound much more pleasing than huge evergreens :-)
that just goes to prove that everyone prefers long neck bottle when it comes to cold one :)
I know you will be very happy that you cleared out that nice sunny spot! Enjoy it!Suzi
Doug, open fires are illegal in the city limits, even some areas the burning only allowed if it is the only source of heat. Polution, I guess, the air is thick without the sun clearing the gray clouds. I am thinking of burrying the last of it, as it is too heavy to pull out of there. Back to work at it!
Easier project with a Stump Grinder. You can rent one for less than $100/day, and grind the stump in 1-2 hrs.Navid.
Navid, there is a handy andy down the street from me and we considered, but there is no access to the area. fences, and other buildings, so, it has to be done by hand. a professional stump remover quoted $2200, without hauling and dumping fee, ouch!
I'd guess the tree thought it was hot enough to have a Budweiser!I know they love the carbs, and B vitamins in it! Beer is good when mixed with 2x the amount of water, and used for foliar feeding!
you could drill holes in it and add stump remover powder. It accerates the rotting process by bacterial action. eats up the stump in half the time.Should work even better if you're going to bury it.
I just finished digging a 2x bigger hole and leaned the big 4feet diameter base into the hole 5 feet deep, it can take its time breaking down, I hope to never see it again.
