Trees with no leaves!

I have 2 trees one a San Pietro and an Italian Honey. They did not leaf this year. The branches are black in areas.I have them in pots that have a bottom that holds water. Are they dead from too much water? Can the be saved and how would I know.Appreciate any and all help.

Sounds like they are dead. You can scratch the bark, if you see green then it is still alive. Cut away all dead branches to the green growth.

Remove water as your soil/mix may be holding too much water and is drowning the roots.

How big are your trees....are they first year cuttings ....do you have a picture.....the black section is dead but if there is any green they may come back..

Hi,
Are they outside in the sun ?
Outside they should have greening buds by now . But until 1st of August they still can send a bud or root-shoot.
I have a cutting outside that sent a bud last week ... Patience is the key . By the way, another stick started a breba last week as well ... Starting a breba at the end of June ; ain't that fun ?
The same last stick seems to be willing to finally open its terminal bud and leaf out ... 3 months that it's in the dirt and that I'm telling it : Ya can do it ! come on !
