Trinmming the cutting

Hi everybody!!

Out of the seven cuttings that Akram sent me ,four are survivors.
Three have been planted into bigger tubs, but there is one problem child.
It has nice growth but no roots.
So I took it out of it's medium and inspected it.

The bottom looked hollow.
So I took my trustee pocket knife and trimmed a little off.
I kept trimming till I hit solid white center and green skin.

Then I put it back in the cup and covered and put
on the water heater for bottom heat.

Fingers crossed eh?

Anybody else have a hollow center?

Jerry

Akram,

Were any of the cuttings you sent me, white figs?

Buster

Fig branches are very similar to human bones.  Human bones are hollow in the middle, filled with marrow.  They are solid at the joints.  Fig cuttings are the same.  The "joints" (nodes) of the cutting are solid, and the flat area in between the nodes is filled with softer material like bone marrow, which will rot out eventually.

I will check the varieties I sent earlier and send you an email. Don't worry about the loss but learn from it.

Buster,

I would also like to leave you with the following information which will make my statements clearer.

Thread at GW/FF:

Also, something I wrote some time ago that links to the book pictured in that thread with reading material you should find very informative:

Here are my survivers.
The one in the green cup is the one that still does not have roots.
And I couldn't tell you what it is?

I am ppretty sure two of the cuttings in the tubs are Hardy Chicago,
and the one in the clay pot is a mystery fig.

Also my brown turkey that was brought in,  is showing buds!
