Tropical figs

I read somewhere that : "Dr Paul Recher has some kind of tropical fig in his collection that's a least 5x bigger than carica".
One member also mentioned in this Forum that somewhere in Central America he came across (Ecuador?) a fig he thought at the beginning it was a pear.
I would appreciate any information regarding those tropical varieties (including avabiality) since I could not find anything in my search on the web.

Better late than never in responding, I guess, Sal. Sorry, just saw the post.
This is the fig that, to me, looked to be the size of a small pear (it was 15 feet up the tree). It was big but nowhere near 5-10 x the size of a regular fig.

The daughter plant grew to 6 feet last year in my fig orchard, died to the ground this winter but is now coming back up.

Just curious....what variety?  Breba, or, main-crop?

Not sure, Frank. Most likely main-crop. Ecuador doesn't have seasons, it's always Spring with temperatures averaging in the low 70's year round. We were there last February.

Frank, in any chance do you have any cuttings available for sale ?.... I'm interested.... Please let me know ASAP since one of my friend from California is coming visiting me in Indonesia.... Hopefully she could bring the cuttings for me..... Thanks Frank

Sorry Ong, as stated, the tree died to the ground and is only now starting to re-grow. By the the end of the year, I should expect plenty of cuttings.

Ops.... Sorry I didn't read carefully ..... My bad.... I hope when u got some cuttings in the future ,I can get some from you.... Thanks Frank

Regards,

Ong

Thanks Tallahassee-

Looks like an interesting variety, and with your growing skills, you should have some happy results, and sooner rather than later.  The Florida climate and length of your growing season ain't exactly chopped liver.  Good luck growing those fig-egg plant hybrids.
