Tropical fruit paradise.

While Pennsylvania was getting hit with many snow storms in February , I took a trip down to Trinidad and Tobago where the weather was very hot. As tourists hit the beach I was hitting the different farms and the market place looking for fruit. Having been to different Caribbean islands, I think Trinidad is one of the best places for tropical fruits.
Here's some fruit that I have samples, but there are many more.
from top left, Soursop, Star fruit, Mamey, Mammee apple, Chinese Tamarind, Julie mangos

Star apple

One of the smallest mangoes in the world, called Doudouce, and the julie mangoes, one of the best mangos.

The beach was also great, you can see through the clear water the fish from a nearby coral reef. They were very friendly :-)

Here's a fig tree growing in Tobago.

I grow the Julie mangoes. I agree, they are one of the best. Did you like the soursop? That is one fruit I can't stomach.  How were the doudouce? I have not heard of those. I may have to go on the hunt for a tree if they are good.

Great place to visit (sometimes). Thanks for sharing the paradise pictures. The pictures posted a few days ago were equally picturesque.

Nice pics Bass, Best part of living in toronto is that you can buy most of those all year round down at china town. I usually go every weekend to buy my Rambutan, longan, mangosteens, sweetsops, atemoya, cherimoya's, soursop is ok, Duran is just nasty, Jackfruit is ok I Love the yellow dragonfruit yumm. Me personally I absolutely love Cherimoyas and atemoyas even if they are $10.00 each I will buy atleast 5.

I guess you still need figs after having Rambutan, longan, mangosteens, sweetsops, atemoya, cherimoya's, soursop , Duran, Jackfruit, the yellow dragonfruit yumm and the absolutely lovely Cherimoyas and atemoyas !!

Akram I have a soursop tree a small one had an atemoya & cherimoya & sugar apple tree or sweetsop but they all require hand pollination and after a couple years I gave up and got rid of them. Fruits would never mature, figs on the other had are more fun to play with and dont need pollination so thats when I decided to grow figs and buy tropical fruit at China Town less headaches although not cheap but I can still get the best of both worlds. Another thing I miss is chewing on sugarcane lol

Those palm trees in the last pic, behind the wall, are great!

Years ago I bought $100 or so worth of rare and imported fruits (much of what you have there and much much more) and packed them with the playpen of my youngest son.  The darn thing was stolen right out of baggage claim and I never got to try much of it (except for 2 of the 5 kinds of mangoes I had gotten).

My wife still complains about the playpen, but she had no idea I had packed so much fruit into it when I folded adn stored it before returning home

Our departure and arrival destinations were both within the contiguous US states.

P.S.  Bass, do you ever update your trees of joy site with availability (with regard to jujube's and such)??

You may be able to by some of these fruits in specialty stores, however seeing the trees and picking them is more more fun. They taste much sweeter when picked fully ripened.
The doudouce mangos are amazingly sweet. It reminds me with how some figs are, very large figs compared to small very sweet figs. Not sure if you can find them in the states.

I will be updating my website with availability in the next few days.

All i can say is nice looking tropical plants they have there, just not used to seeing those .
Also i need to travel more one day, the fruit pictures you posted im not at all familar with except maybe 2.
Someday i will get off our block and travel some.
But thanks for posting those nice pictures .

Bass nice pics i must say i am partial to the ocean pic with fish the water looks absolutely beautiful

Thanks for the pictures Bass!  I love traveling vicarously with people.

delicious fruits.........its expensive and they are all available in Vietnamese stores, China town & some of the specialty Superstores here.

Nelson, I think durian is an acquired taste fruit. Sometimes they smell like a sting bomb. Bought a frozen one before & I left it outside to thaw. Unfortunately my basset hound loves fruit and he helped himself to it. Ate the whole thing except the skin & pips.
