Hello all, new to fig collecting, been growing for years, one of our favorites in our family for years that we have enjoyed was hoping for anyone's thoughts on what this might be or if you can lead me in the diction to begin my search to try and classify it would be great.. sorry if this was a stupid question.. looking forward to being a regular on the forums

thanks for the quick response much appreciated. area of the world is New york city. I can try and get some more photos of the tree, getting ready to wrap it up for the winter.

You may have to provide more background to the history of you family favorite. Where did it come from, was it brought overseas from somewhere, do you know the ethnicity of the source, or did your dad buy it at a hardware store 15-20 years ago?

You need to place a 25 cents coin next to the fruit to have an idea how big it is,and more leaves,I am sure it got more than one kind of leaf shape.

Thanks Hermansur, will do on that, will try and get more detailed information, more leaf photos and a quarter next to my future pictures. that was the last rip fig for the year so may have to only relay on the photos.. thanks to everyone for all the usefull insight.

Not an expert here, but I'm going with Celeste.

Thanks Danny, its a good start will start to research adn compare the Celeste with what i have in hand.

Celeste - This leaf is mature.  I have many leaves on young Celeste that look like yours.  Again, not an expert, just my 2 cents.  There are definitely many more experienced members on this forum that can make a better call.

At least my two cents go to celeste because of the size and color of the fig.

You have some really experienced folks, and some of my pals going with Celeste, so I second their opinions as I have 2 of them
One other point that should be made is that Celeste is a very good tasting fig. You didnt mention flavor, but for a really common plant, this is one along with Chicago Hardy that many newbies should consider.
Easy to find, inexpensive, and pretty hardy for the colder climates

Thank you to all for all the information, my dad has had this one for years and years and in all the years he has come across figs its his favorite.. will finally tell him what type it is.. starting to dabble in possibly purchasing some new figs on eBay just to get some vdifferent figs growing.. thanks again guys all the best much apprichated

Welcome from one Charlie to another!  No need to go on ebay.  Stick around and you will likely get all the figs you can ever hope to grow and some for free.  Folks here are very generous and willing to help.  You came at the right time too with Fall and pruning season upon us. Nothing quite like getting a cutting to grow. :)
