It been a while since I posted something but this was worthy. For Mother's Day my family gathered in Gaston, Alabama at my sister's house. We decided to go for a walk and I as always had my eye's peeled for interesting plants. So we pass a field which had some gardens and trees. Back in the 50's when the development was built the lots along the river were small so each owner was given the change to purchase extra land for farming/gardening.So I look and say could that be... Yep that's a pretty big fig. I'm 5'6" and the one behind it is just as big. Here are the leaves. Because I knew you would ask. Hopefully I will get down to see the figs later this year.Hope you like the pictures.
good catch wonder how the figs taste
This was a very short trip so no time to talk with the locals about the trees however I will see if my sister can get more information down about the trees.Hopefully I will get down in time to taste some. If they are good then I'm pretty sure I can get a few cuttings in the fall or winter.
Looks like someone is maintaining the section close to ground. Thank You for posting.
