a friend of mine has a tree in their yard - their landscape company planted it after killing their other fig tree. it came with no labels, no source, nothing.
it fruited this year. i'd like to ID.
at first look below, i bet a lot would say, "Celeste". however, as this fruit is ripening and a lot of other Celeste nearby have finished their sole crop, this one is producing another crop on new growth!
i've heard anecdotal stories of two- and three-crop Celestes in warmer climates, but I've never actually seen one in Atlanta, and i've seen a LOT of Celeste trees.
below are pics. note: fruit is ~20% larger than a typical Celeste and more round with a longer intermediate stem (almost no neck). eye is VERY PINK and mostly closed (somewhat open). leaves could be anything, 50/50 of three-lobe and five-lobe leaves, dominant shapes pictured. looks like the skin would crack, which is pretty typical for ripe Celeste. Couldn't get interior pic of the fruit.
so... is this a two-crop Celeste, or something else?
