Two figs per node?

I have seen two figs at a node in my brief fig growing experience just twice last season on 2 separate plants, but one of my plants has gone crazy setting two figs per most nodes. This plant is kind of an unknown - a collector in Pgh reportedly got it from Italy, I received it as a rooted plant a year and a half ago labeled "Tuscan Dark". It produced a good number of very dark skinned figs with a light pink center last season but I do not recall seeing extra figs at any nodes. This year I counted 20 points growing figs, and 15 of them have double figs set, typically one larger than the other.

Is this a characteristic of certain strains? Of some variation in how it was grown? (although it is in a 4g SIP pot, grown like most of my others)
Any thoughts on why this happens?

I am posting a pic of one branch, but the doubles are not shown as well as I would like. A second pic shows a typical leaf, though it looks a little asymmetric.

Hey Ed, now that's neat! I have only had that to happen 1 time and only on one limb! I really don't know what causes it, but it sure is nice. That tree seems to be healthy with beautiful green leaves!
Hope you have a great Fig season!

Hi,
My BT did that on 4 or 5 nodes last year. They were maincrop figs.
Well, it was nice seeing them. But, I wish I had taken one off on those nodes.
The problem with mine was that both fruits struggled and they didn't neither grow properly nor ripen properly.
The single fruits were bigger.

Ed,

We have a Portuguese variety that has 2 figs per node. It's even named after that - "Dois à Folha".

Here's some photos (they are not my photos as i don't have this variety)

The "Dois à Folha" are on the left in this photo:

Maybe Francisco has more information. He published some photos of this variety on another thread:
