I have seen two figs at a node in my brief fig growing experience just twice last season on 2 separate plants, but one of my plants has gone crazy setting two figs per most nodes. This plant is kind of an unknown - a collector in Pgh reportedly got it from Italy, I received it as a rooted plant a year and a half ago labeled "Tuscan Dark". It produced a good number of very dark skinned figs with a light pink center last season but I do not recall seeing extra figs at any nodes. This year I counted 20 points growing figs, and 15 of them have double figs set, typically one larger than the other.
Is this a characteristic of certain strains? Of some variation in how it was grown? (although it is in a 4g SIP pot, grown like most of my others)
Any thoughts on why this happens?
I am posting a pic of one branch, but the doubles are not shown as well as I would like. A second pic shows a typical leaf, though it looks a little asymmetric.
