Types of water solution

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if we could do a poll on what we each use to water our rooted cuttings. I've been using just tap water and nothing else but I've been reading some posts from people who use canna Aqua vega and some who use reverse osmosis water. Can everyone just chime in on what they use and possibly their reason and whether they noticed a difference?

Thanks!

I typically use rain water from the roof - either from my rain barrel or collected from a downspout.  Not sure if it matters but with mini-SIPs you probably don't to use water with very high levels of minerals (not to mention the other additives like chlorine etc).

I use RO water just because I have a unit in the basement for the fish tank and I typically have it on hand in the basement. I do like that it reduces scale build up and algae growth in the 10 gallon aquarium I use as a greenhouse for the cuttings.

I just use my tap water. I am in Louisiana and i have a well. Works grate for me

well water which is rich in sulfur (smell) and other minerals, not filtered or treated, straight from the well. It is treated and filtered for the house.

Tap water. It works fine, maybe rainwater or some other type would work better  but I haven't tried it so I wouldn't know. Our tap water in Denver area has pretty low ppm, usually between 120-180 ppm.

When your cuttings are in perlite or coir, are any of you guys using Canna Aqua Vega?

If it's good enough for me to drink, it's good enough to use to water plants.  The mineral content of almost any tap water is so low, I can't imagine it would make any difference.  It's not like you're watering your cuttings that much anyway.  It's just enough to counteract evaporation.

Fiona, a member here, RichinNJ, has a thread about growing starts in a humidity chamber(From twigs to figs in 120 days) and uses nothing but perlite and uses the Canna Aqua Vega as a drench after they come out of the chamber.  Might check out his thread.

Tap water here is too iffy, Chloramines, fluoride, etc.  I try to collect rain water, when not available I use RO, because that's what I drink (easy to add sea salt for minerals), you really don't want fluoride in your diet, contributes to all kinds of problems, especially thyroid, tends to drive hypothyroid, and lower IQ in the young (Harvard study).

Good for nothing, definitely not your teeth, but really great at causing a host of sub-clinical problems that Big Pharma would be happy to treat but not cure.  Sorry I know this is one of those things people disagree about, but there is info out there from respected studies proving it does nothing at best.  At worst fluorosis, cancer, hypothroidism, etc.

Anyway, off soap box.  I use Dyna-Gro Foliage Pro and Protekt way diluted, in whatever growing medium I'm using, at about 1/4tsp of each per gallon.

Thanks everyone! Keith, I will definitely check out that thread.
