UC Davis 2009 order

If you haven't ordered any cuttings for UC davis it's already too late. I had to get a fedex account number this time. My order was submited about a month ago, but haven't heard anything back.
Don't they usually send confirmation?

I too got a fed-x account and specifically told them to ship ground, not over night. I put my order in maybe a month ago and have not heard from them either. I tasted a couple really good figs while there last Sept and just have to have them. :-)

I see Angelique is no longer there. Maybe that's why we haven't heard from them yet?

I made an oversight &  Bernard wrote to advise, he mentioned shipping in March. So probably all those who have not heard from him yet could probably assumed their orders are in order & shipping in March. Hope this info helps.

I have not ever received a confirmation, as long as I have been doing this. The twigs just show up one day. Always used to be 3rd and 4th week of February, but this year the shipping happened over a longer period of time starting about the end of February, and I think lasting till the end of March, or maybe a little later. They also ship cuttings of Pomegranate, walnut, etc., etc. so there is more on their plate than just figs. They are financially challeged (even before the economy went south) and understaffed, so be patient. Excess communication only adds to the problem.

Jon,
I spoke with Bernard, he's the person in charge of running the orders. He's in charge of the grapes department, and he said that he got stuck doing this since they're understaffed. They are strugeling financially, so I doubt they're looking into hiring more people.
I rather see our tax money go towards UCDAvis than the car industry.

Ha ha ha, good point!

AND, and,and ..what about those Wall Street crony (b) millionaires...

No argument on not bailing out the big boys that created this mess, but doubt USDA/UC Davis will get more money in this economy.

Speaking of cuttings.  I have some ready to send to a forum member, but am unsure about doing so with night temps in the teens.  What is everyone's experience?  Is it safe to do so when it is so cold?  I know what the teens did to wood on trees planted in the ground in the hoop!

Ship usps priority mail (costs ~$5 for  under 1 pound, 2-3 day delivery), wrap
in moist (not wet) paper, inside a plastic bag, mark box as "perishable" and
things should be fine.

Hello,
I placed an order for the first time - wanted to get some caprifigs for study. I received a note from Bernard indicating that my email was received and that the cuttings would be shipped in March. I am very appreciative of this service and am very glad that there are germplasm repositories to maintain the diversity of these various food crops.
