UC Davis clippings

does anyone have recent experience with getting clippings from UC Davis?

I read on their website that they don't cater to hobbiests anymore. Is that true?

That's how I read it, too.  Unfortunate.

mmm, Lets ask Jon or Harvey guys... they know it best on this matter.

I thought UCDavis closed the site because it's past November 1st.
They want it to be open only 2 months a year for people to order before Nov 1st, then they close it again.
I noticed a freshened up website where the pages I used to work with are not available anymore...I am confused.
Was planning to call Mary myself to find out more about this.

This page is still up:
http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/acc/acc_queries.html
and the links to request on the variety’s pages too.

what’s not available?

I posted back in August at the annual USDA fig tasting at Wolfskill (not UC Davis, but on property leased from UC Davis....), that the research director (aka "head guy") John Preece specifically said that they provide material to researchers and that includes folks carrying out trials in their back yard, wink wink, etc.  Those were not his exact words (I posted an exact quote, go search my posts if desired), but that's the essence of what he said.

Last weekend while at the pomegranate and persimmon tasting I asked him a question about the cut-off date being moved from 12/1 to 11/1 starting in 2013.  He said that they were also going to make a change that they only allowed orders to be placed during a window period (i.e., 3 months) instead of year-round as many people request the same thing more than once in the same season and it takes them more time sorting through all of that.
