UC Davis Cutting delivery STARTED !!! wohoooooo.

I just spoke to Mary Parker and she informed me that they started to package the cuttings yesterday and, although it's going slow, it's going well.

I know! I was shocked to receive a shipment notification from them earlier today. I put in my requests long enough ago that it took me a minute to figure out why "USDA, ARS, NCGR" was sending me something! Of course, at this point I have absolutely no recollection of what I requested, so I'm sure whatever comes will be a very nice surprise. :-)

I received raspberry cuttings from them, so I'm hoping figs are next!!! I placed my order this time last year..

I received an email as well from Mary, but mine said my billing wasn't working. I fixed that and notified her. I too have no clue what it was I ordered way back then!

well, whatever you two's orders were i'm sure they were the best things you ever wanted to have ;)

Jumpin' up and down....squealin' like a pig!!!!! We were all holding our breath on this for the last 6 months after the "they're not sending anymore" scare.

I just realized that I never sent any shipping payment info with my order. I still have the email. I could reply to it and add that. What do I need to send them? I have a USPS.com account, but I don't see any account number or anything that I am supposed to send them.

Paul, USDS doesn't ship by USPS (though that would definitely be the best choice when they ship to me just 40 miles away).  They want a FedEx or UPS account number.  If you don't provide either they will usually just absorb the cost.  Otherwise, you can open  up a FedEx account (their preference, I believe) and give them the account number.

Just FYI, I prefer UPS because all of the other ones irradiate their packages. I always do my best to give my cuttings the best shot in surviving. And, NO, I do not work for UPS! LOL. Just something to think about

@IamKriya, how do you know about irradiation of packages? How can we find out who does and who doesn't? This shouldn't be a secret.

Aaron, I have always known about this since knowing about irradiation is important in my profession. I'm sure if you do a search online it will come up. You are right, this shouldn't be a secret. But, like most things, unless one does his/her homework one would be left with 'filtered' information.

@IamKryia, thanks for the advise, I went ahead and opened a UPS account and notified Mary, OMG, she was so thankful. It felt so nice to talk to her...
Apparently they don't get paid by everybody. How unthankful some people can be.
BTW I have always loved the quote you are using in your signature. Wise words of a wiser man!

Just an FYI about UPS. If you have your account just for this purpose you will need to update it before your order ships. I did not know this and my account had been suspended for lack of use. They sent my package anyway, which made me feel horrible. UPS will ask you for information found on your last bill in order to update your account. Save your bill even if it's paid so you can enter information from it.

Aaron, whereabouts in LA do you live? I fly out there regularly for continuing education and pleasure. Maybe, we can meet up or something in the future. I usually stay around Santa Monica.

Sure Ryan, you can visit us anytime you are in LA... and see my cuttings growing into baby trees.

My FedEx notice tells me I should expect a package today 3/14 (Pi day).  It's like Christmas (including the crushingly cold weather <g>) all over again.  I wonder what I got?  Is it here yet?

I'll post on the order versus the fulfillment post Christmas package opening.

Andrew

Andrew, when you open your package, it will smell like heaven.  My first package did!

Good luck with your cuttings!

No Black Ischia for me this year  :(

I got a package today! I vaguely remembered ordering scion but didn't remember which. I got Black Madeira and Panache. I know I ordered pomegranate scion but did not receive anything. Harvey said they come at the same time so I guess they're not coming. But am I disappointed? NO! I am so grateful!

is Black Ischia same as Black Madeira?

No.  Black Ischia, or Ischia Black, have reddish petioles, for one thing.  Look at the variety index, they are both richly flavored black figs but still quite different.

I didnt realize they will ship to you if you didnt provide a Fedex or UPS account number so I just wrote off the cuttings. I just moved and didnt inform them of my address change although I did do a change of address at the Postal Service. Maybe I should go knock on the door at my old house and let them know Im expecting a package of cuttings!!!!! I ordered some good ones to but got all caught up in moving and such. If its meant to be, so be it!

I haven't gotten any emails from them yet.   Nor ever got any replies to a couple of inquiries I had sent about the order.  :(

Blueboy1977 and Dalles Figs, you both need to call Mary Parker, ASAP.

Ditto.
