UC Davis Cutting delivery STARTED !!! wohoooooo.

Pete, you can always refrigerate them and keep them dormant for months, until you are ready to deal with them. Just deep the cut ends in Paraffin to keep them from dehydrating.

I'm still hopeful, emailed Mary and she said as long as I had gotten it in before Nov that I should get my request... she was very nice I sent my UPS account number but it is the first time I used it, do they bill me or what?

Gloria, it's been a long time since I set up my UPS account but I thought that I gave my credit card info when I did so and they just charge my card when I purchase shipping labels there.

How does paying for shipping and handling work?  I got an email from UPS and when I click on the tracking number it says:

Label Created On:
03/20/2014
Scheduled Delivery:
Monday, 03/24/2014, By End of Day

Do I need to somehow pay for the S&H online before they'll ship it or do I do that once it arrives?  Thanks.

If you have a UPS account as it appears you do,you have already paid. Check your credit card transactions.

To make my thoughts on it clear, however, I suggest that everyone that orders from USDA to obtain a shipping account and pay for their own shipping.  I was told a couple of years ago by staff at Davis that their total budget was about the same as it was 10 years ago but then maintain many more accessions now and many costs that they have no control over have gone up, so staffing levels have decreased.  I think it's only fair that folks that are getting cuttings for free at least pay for their own shipping.  They have no system established for being able to bill people that don't provide shipping accounts.

EDIT: This was in response to Donna's post which she deleted! LOL

I'm happy to pay for it.  It's a great service they're providing.  Just not sure how to now.

Any updates on shipments? I really don't want to call and nag but I'm kinda gettin bummed.

I set up a UPS account for UCD to use. Shipping cost was $27. Cuttings arrived on March 19th.

I got my box today, didn't order many. Got 1 Madiera, 1 Col de Dame and 3 Montreuse and 0 Black Ischia. Next year I will be ready and order more.

same here.  haven't heard anything.  no big deal if i don't get any, though..

Got mine yesterday.  Got everything I asked for!

I ordered mine in September and didn't remember what I ordered. So if the cuttings came Great if not, I was OK.  Was surprised that the cuttings looked very healthy.

Just received my UC Davis order today at noon...just completed installing 50 cuttings into root riot cubes...under the lights and ready to go by 4pm...wheeew !  ......30 days from now should be ready for uppotting to 1gal. (if all goes well) ??

wow, good luck with those rooting Vince I hope you get all 100% to grow for you.
Meanwhile I'm still waiting...ugh.

Aaron...I ordered my cuttings back in June, maybe that's why they arrived earlier than usual...I've never had 100% success rate, but usually I root 90 to 95% of my cuttings, which is a pretty good success rate...I must give credit to Rafed, who introduced me to the root riot system.

Will someone please PM me the number for Mary Parker, or whomever I should speak with? I still have not had any replies to emails or phone messages I have sent to the general number for the Davis repository.

They showed up today. I couldn't really remember what I ordered but I know there were only 2 that I wanted.
I ordered 2 varieties and got 1 real nice cutting of each that I'll will cut in half and have four nice cuttings.

Thank you James.

OK, according my UPS website tracking, my 2Lbs package is arriving tomorrow towards end of the day. I'm crossing my fingers.....and legs, no matter how painful that might be!

And I bet ya Aaron, you will not only be doing chicken dance when you receive the cuttings but you will also clap your hands and feet, both at the same time LOL

Norhayati

I finally received my package today, too, after about 15 months from ordering.  I received everything I ordered EXCEPT the Raspberry Latte and Ischia Black.  And, I was too stupid to order the CdD at the time, so those will have to be on my list for next year.  I'm definitely thrilled to have received the Black Madeira and VdB and, although I haven't heard much about them, from the pics I've seen of the UCR 291-4 and UCR 143-36, I'm pretty excited to try those, also!

I received mine yesterday. Really nice cuttings. I ordered Verdal Longue, Col de Dame, Dauphine, Verte and Black Madeira. I got the first three and I just read that Dauphine needs the fig wasp. Oh well, I'll just keep that one since I like growing plants. I am so appreciative!!
Now just wish me good fig abundance growing luck. So that they can grow and flourish!! Whoo HOO!!

I just spoke with Mary and my order is being processed! They are still shipping out so don't loose hope if you are still waiting. It sounds as if they are shipped in the order received.
