Hi, just wanted to let everybody know that last night I received some pear cuttings from UC Davis, not what I ordered but it could be a good sign that fig cuttings will follow.Im keeping my fingers crossed.

I didn't realize they offered pear scion.  In fact, I had been considering posting a thread asking if there was a pear scion repository in the U.S. that I could order from.

The US Pear Repository is in Corvallis Oregon, I believe

That is correct ...

UC Davis doesn't distribute scions.  Do you mean USDA GRIN at Davis?  Foundation Plant Material Services is also located on UC Davis property and sells scions of various species.  I don't believe USDA Grin at Davis would ever be mailing out pear scions.

Awesome, just called up the list of 746 pear accessions available for scion requests from Corvallis.  Next year I'll take advantage of that treasure :)

i have seen some pear bare roots in Home Depot that looks so much like Fig Trees.... nodes can resemble. But they should know better....?  (I hope)

These came from
National Clonal Germplasm Repository
Corvallis Oregon

Crap! Do I have to join the Pears4Fun forum now???

Good News. Just spoke to Mari at UC Davis and she telling me that fig scions should be going out very soon!!!

i always get them at the end of march. i'm sort of not waiting for them. i have more varieties than i expected this yr. and i have some that i really don't want to lose. more cuttings isn't what i need... but i want the ones i ordered... urgh...

Did anybody pay for shipping? or is there any one who didn't pay for shipping?

I didn’t pay for shipping last year, I didn’t know how, was still a newbie. I got the fig and persimmon cuttings.

You need to have an account with either ups or fed ex to pay for shipping ..when the cuttings go out...

Yep ..I'm still pretty new at this also, but I thought I read somewhere you had to prepay for shipping in order for them to send anything out..

Checkout the curators choice list http://www.ars.usda.gov/SP2UserFiles/Place/53581500/Postman/Curator's%20Choice%20Pears%2002-2012.pdf You aren't the only pear nut here ;)

Pears are amazing.  Really underrated, imo.

Thanks for pointing me toward the curator's list.  I couldn't get that link to open, but here's an alternate link: http://www.ars.usda.gov/SP2UserFiles/Place/53581500/catalogs/pyrchoice.html

Mari told me on the phone I don't HAVE to pay , they will send regardless but it's a curtesy also to help cover expenses in a minute way...do they accept PayPal?

I have no idea..this is my first time ordering

I have always had to pay.  I would suggest everyone pay if we want this program to continue. I know when my shipping account went inactive due to non-use as this is about all I use it for my order was not shipped. If you appreciate this program you should pay the shipping, because with the great increase in orders, very much resulted from this forum, I would think they might be accessing the cost to provide this service.

So how do you pay? I gave my fedex account number in the comments (I think that is what was requested) and neither Geneva nor Corvallis shipped to me by fedex (they paid).

Thats how I noted payment. Their process seems to lack a formality in this area as at least for U.C. Davis, I have not ordered from Geneva or Corvallis.  They don't seem to have a payment field noted.
