UC DAVIS CUTTINGS

Thanks. I'd considered the 2-3 foot but they've been out of that size.

My beautiful, 18 in long cutting of CdD came in from UC Davis last night. It is covered in nodes and looks wonderful!

My order came in yesterday, too!  Nice surprise.  Beautiful cuttings!

I'm glad to hear CdD was so good this year.  The cutting I received last year was very weak.

I just got my order!

Received: Yellow Neches, Zidi, Marabout, Verdal Longue, Barnisotte, Col de Dame, Capri Q, Rattlesnake Island, Capitola Long

NOT Shipped: Cole de Dame Noir, Black Madeira, Adriatic, Lampeira, Bourjassote Grise

I only got Rattlesnake Island because the name is awesome, and Capitola because I used to live in Capitola.

Two of the items on my not shipped list were sent to me (unexpectedly) by other members.

I am very happy =)

I went to the UCD website and it said that cuttings are only available to researchers so I didn't submit a request.  How does this work?

Thanks,
Paul

Paul, don't worry.  Just say you are researching how a certain cutting will do in your climate.  The real researchers are first in line, but they will respect your order.

I was honest about it. I said I was experimenting to see which ones will grow best in my soil with minimal irrigation. That's hardly research, but it has been a good enough excuse for the past two years.

Received a notification that my requests were picked up yesterday based on the label created on the 31st, so I should receive it next week.

Regarding my hunt for native persimmon root stocks, I found about a dozen, good sized (for transplant and grafting) male persimmon trees lining the ditch on my road!

Thank you Cyberfarmer and DesertDance for the info.  I will request some cuttings next year!

I just completed my order for next year and got the confirmation.  Man, that was tough!  Do you know how many Wine Grapes I had to scroll through?  OMG 1,670 something!!  Ficus Carica was cake!  Only 217 varieties.  Pistachio.  Easy.  Got an unknown male and female.  Ordered one Pomegranate that is so sweet they make wine out of it.  THEN, because I use that Fed Ex account rarely, I had to open a new account because they closed the previous one due to lack of use.......

I put my Fed Ex number in the section for Comments.

Here is what I used for their research section, and it is the truth.

Intended use of material:
I plan to root these cuttings and plant them in the Groasis Waterboxx's here on our property in Riverside County.  They will require no irrigation and I will be able to report to you after 2-3 years.  Our plan is to convert our entire property to the waterboxx technology to help save water in the drought, yet produce healthy fruit and nut vines and trees.

Some of the "research" we can do might be helpful. For instance, CDD blanc here (in the ground) withstood 12F briefly this winter with little if any damage. Enderub was forgotten outside and made it through the winter in a pot and is bearing figs.

I still haven't received my cutting request or email. Are people still receiving their request? I don't want to contact them and bug them about it. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with calling to check the status of your request.

I expected my requests had been lost and called a few weeks ago. Maybe they were before I called. However, I received all but two of my requests today. No black madeira Fig or Weber Persimmon, but I received at least one of everything else. I am a very happy camper! Thank you UCD!

I couldn't help wondering so I sent Mary an email asking if they were still shipping cuttings and she assured me that they are still shipping. Three weeks later, last Thursday, I received my cutting request in the mail! It was more exciting than Christmas! I setup my automated mist propagation system and added my Fig and Mulberry cutting to the mist bed. What a feeling! Thank you Mary!

I guess I got the weenie this year.   No notification    No cuttings.     Can I order now for next year     Joyce

Sorry, Joyce, I am almost Positive, you can order for next year! I think you should  have your order in, by Fall of 2015.:)

I didn't get a notification either. They just showed up in the mail. Nothing wrong with sending Mary an email asking to verify they have your order. I ordered last July, so yes you can order for next year and I believe the cut off is in November.
