UC Davis Cuttings lost in shipping!!!!!

Just as it says! I tracked them to League City which is right next to me. Didn't show up last Wed as expected. Didn't show up Thurs, fri, sat! They kept changing the date of delivery so today I called UPS. Turned out it never made it to League City and the last time it was touched by a person was in Dallas! How does this happen? Now there is a investigation into the package and they will probably be dead anyway if they ever arrive. They didn't even bother calling or emailing me and that's what's got me bent! Had some good ones in there too! Maybe it's just a sign and I should stick to blueberries.

Or starting the rooting process, just don't put them in refrigeration... hydrate them well when you receive them. Cuttings are sent overseas and sometimes up to 20 days to arrive... still make it. Figs are amazing... I cross my fingers for you.  I use Fedex as my delivery option. I like their service.

All mail people do mess-up once in a while...
I am sure that your (resilient) dormant twigs will eventually arrive safely.

I once (summer) shipped a freshly cut air-layered fig to LI, NY.
USPS Priority Mail should have delived it within 1-2 days.
It actually took 11 days (going around who knows where?).
The recipient more-or-less asked/quoted to as:
"What did you do? Them (extra) roots just wanted to go out of the shipping box" ...

They added some moisturizing mulch to the ones I just received. If you find the package within a reasonable period, they will be good to go.

Blueboy hopefully you get them .
George good one - "what did you do"

I don't have them.   no really..  i don't.  but don't look in my back yard.

Just this winter I had some USPS priority mail packages take 12 days and 15 days to get to my house in NJ (from Florida and Kentucky), and I also had USPS priority mail take 2 days (e.g. from Cali and Washington).  You just never can tell.  The USPS tracking is kind of a joke.
However, all cuttings arrived in good shape, even after being subjected to who knows what kinds of conditions during transit this winter.
Chance are you'll get them eventually and they'll be fine.

Nothing very special - I guess pure-nature took hold of the helm - choo-choo... choo-choo.jpg

I hope y'all are right! Would hate for those cuttings to get lost! While we are on the subject of delivery services, my good friend works for the US Post Office. He said UPS and Fedex will receive a package to ship, charge the customer for using there shipping service which is higher than US Post Office, pocket the money and take the package to the US Post Office to ship it. He said it happens all the time! Just a heads up next time you want to send something to someone. From my experiences to date, the US Post Office is cheaper and faster in most cases. Dare I say more reliable?

You could do worse. ;)

I hope you get your package soon.

Your friend is misleading you. You can read about Fedex partnership with USPS below:

The US Post Office is not any more reliable than any other service for sure.  JD's sis sent a package for Christmas to us and we never got it.  It ended up somewhere else and she got it back.  It was smoked salmon and stuff, so she enjoyed it.  THEN just last week an obvious gift to a girl from Nana (in one of those fancy printed padded envelopes) arrived in our mailbox for someone with a different address on a different street!  I put a sticky on  it stating "wrong mailbox."  Sheesh!!

I really hope this gets straightened out for you.

I sent a one gallon last year to a member here for a trade.....still has not made it lol.  I recently sent a package up north ant it is currently MIA.....i mean how many days can it possibly take to get a package from Fl to MA?   On the plus side Rafed sent me a very fragile gift and it made it here in one piece so......win some lose some.

ugh, and it happened to you?

THAT'S IT, I'M THROWING MY HAT!

All of the carriers are about equal in reliability.  They all do quite well but make some mistakes.  I shipped about 1,000 packages over about 7 weeks last fall.  I'd guess about 25 took more than 3 days with most of them being 4 days.  About 10 took 5-8 days, 1 took 11 days, and 1 was returned after 15 days with a very torn up label that they could no longer read.  This worked to my advantage as I was able to at least get $50 in insurance since they could not show that they had returned it to me (the only thing that could be read was my zip code and the Postmaster recognized the contents as mine). The product was no longer salable but my loss was fairly small.

UPS delivered a computer I ordered once down the street from where I used to work even though they made deliveries to our office nearly every day.  FedEx delivered my camera to a neighbor once.  DHL delivered about $5,000 of camera lenses to the gate on my neighbor's farm.  USPS once delivered my bank statement and cancelled checks....what was left of it after some vehicle of theirs caught on fire.  But many thousands of packages have been delivered just fine.

I find that 2 day shipping is often a joke. It costs more and about half the time it takes 4-5. Tracking numbers I like, though during the holiday season I had several that proved worthless with the package showing up before any updates other than the initial posting.
