UC Davis Fig Cutting Length

I'm about to root my uc davis cuttings, but they are rather long. Most of them are 10-12 inches. I was wondering what is a good length for a cutting. Should I leave them as is or should I cut them in half?

I'm far from an expert, but I had 6 Peter's Honey like that. I cut them all in half, but they all had at least 6 nodes and I made sure I had at least 3 per cutting. They all rooted fine.

Hi, James. So they had enough energy to root and grow well, okay. hmm. So would you say 3 inches would be a safe length to cut them at?

I had tried one-node as short as 1 inch, almost all has rooted pretty well.

i typically cut them so each cutting will have at least 3 nodes on them. i usually end up with 2-3 cuttings.

I agree with bullet08 (3 node minimum for me)...Good luck.

3-node minimum for me too, unless I'm feeling lucky.

Thanks Pete, Jimmy, Vince, and Frank for your input. I will keep it to 3-nodes. When I saw how long the cuttings were, I wasn't exactly sure whether or not to disturb them. At first I thought maybe they were that length for a reason. But then I thought that perhaps they intended them to be re-sized. So I wasn't sure. Anyways Thanks Again. :)

They must ship in waves.  I didn't get mine yet, but have for the last few years, and I usually cut them.  They are quite long, and you get a better chance of rooting that way!

Hi, Suzi. I haven't re-sized them yet, but I'm going to take the others advice and make sure they all have at least 3 nodes. I hope your cuttings arrive soon. Good Luck!
