I got mine a couple weeks ago. All are planted in-ground and marked well. When they got burried horizontally, some were already showing swelling green buds. Bring on the roots! I water them every other day, but they might get free water today. I hear thunder!
I also received wine grape cuttings. Part are resting in a dark place, but part were put in a large deep green vase in water that I change often (grapes root easy that way), and today I picked off several clusters of baby grapes and there are no roots yet! Roots come after 2-3 weeks in water for grape cuttings. They will also root if you just stick them in the ground, which we plan to do next to a 200 foot chain link fence. No gopher baskets for these babies (just plain old poison). They are my wild children. Some will thrive, some won't. There is an irrigation line down by that fence, and we'll put them on drip. I expect 100% participation from those grapes! I got some really good ones!! Next year I'm going for Rodger's Red. It's a wild grape (good rootstock), and grows up trees near streams. Guess what! We have a huge tree and a seasonal stream at the bottom of the ravine on our land, so water does collect there. I look forward to watching Rodger's Red kick it down there!!
The gopher poison I use is Ricin from the beans of the Castor plant. Our plants are large and beans are plentiful. We do not have pets!! And, I put the beans in the tunnels, not on top, so no birds will get them. Just the burrowing pests.
