UC Davis orders

Some friends who ordered other cuttings besides figs have already received their order. Did anyone receive their order yet?

Hello Bass!  Nothing yet to me, still waiting.  I think they will arrive this month though.  cheers,

how do you if you will get any cuttings from them ?

You have to submit your order prior to December 1st. Cuttings are free but they do ask for Fedex or ups account number to cover shipping.

This season is my first experience with ordering from UCD. I set up my FedEx account and got my request in to UCD just under the wire back in late Nov.

How are you billed for the shipping? Does Fedex just send you a bill? Do you pay upon receiving the package? Just not clear on how I pay for the shipping.

I know these are novice questions but I've never used Fedex without the package being paid for up front.

I figured some other new ones are wondering as well so posing these questions here might be helpful....

Bill,

When I had my Fedex account they had my credit card info on file.
When I mail something I would put my FedEx account on the billing form and they would deduct the fund out my account.

If FedEx doesn't have your funding/payment source on file then ( To my knowledge ) your account is useless.

It has become a "Pay up front World" so to speak.

Good luck

I placed an order, received a confirmation, nothing yet but for some reason I wasn't expecting anything till closer to March.

Cathy

Thank you Rafed.

There goes that brain fart again. I'm sure I had to provide CC info in order to open the account;
Duhhhh, my name is Patrick Star and I live under a rock (you'd have to have kids that watch Spongebob to get that one....& then you'd have to BE Patrick to get it - LOL.)

Don't beat yourself too hard Bill.
We're not perfect.

We're only human.

Shipping is expected in March and April. I am pretty sure that was noted somewhere, maybe on the confirmation.

Usually people don't start getting cuttings till 4+ weeks from now, I thought?

Jons correct,
my order put in April 8th
mail i recieved while back with confirmation # August 25th
i blocked out number and name

Thank you for your order.  Your order number is          and will be part of our dormant winter cuttings that will be shipping out sometime in March 2011.  We are still looking into the stamp question and will let you know.

Ditto what Martin said.

This is the confirmation email that was sent to me on 11/29/10:

Thank you for your order and providing your shipping account information to help with our costs.  Your order number is xxxxxxxx and is now part of our winter dormant cuttings that will ship out sometime in March of 2011  (my underline).

Rafed, I have no problem poking fun at my own faults. Gotta be able to laugh at ourselves. Besides it gives me opportunity to quote lines from Sponge Bob. What an honor!!  LOL!

Oops, what happens if I didn't set-up fed-ex at all when I faxed in my order in October? Is it junk?

Ah, ok, I got that confirmation email also.

I thought you guys were getting confirmation that the package left the building :D

No Christmas in March for me this year.  I received word from Mary that my order was not processed.  I'm more bummed over not getting the mulberry and pomegranate cuttings.  As for figs, I do have cuttings from Ricci and Jon (Christmas before March  ;)  I'll have fun with those until next year.

Hi James,

Sorry to hear that about UC Davis.  Did Mary say why your order was not processed?
Cathy

No.  I sent her the email I had received.  She couldn't find the order.  I know they are busy and this is not the main business they are in, so I didn't press the issue. Like I said, I have other cuttings to play with.

And Davis stopped doing Fig summer cuttings? Is that true?

Hongisto; To answer both of your questions:
1) As far as I know,  UCD won't honor your request unless you have a FedEx account.
2) Yes, I'm pretty sure they no longer ship summer ctgs of figs. You should be able to confirm answers to both of your questions via their web site - http://www.ars.usda.gov/Services/Services.htm?modecode=53-06-20-00

The fedex account seems preferred but is apparently not mandatory. I received my first order (in 2009) and second (2011, just a few days) both came without fedex account.

On My first order they asked me for stamps to offset the shipping cost and I mailed them the amount of stamps they requested. That worked fine. On the second order form I also mentioned for them to let me know how much postage (roughly) I could send them to cover the shipping, I also sent an email in January again asking for a postage amount to send them and got no reply. I was very surprised when the order arrived via fedex. Maybe they charged Bill's account !..... Just kidding Bill.

I feel kinda bad, and will have  a fedex number for them next year. I guess I have been a loyal tax payer long enough to have something covered by the USDA.

just my two cents....

Thanks sazonfig! I'll try again next year...

Curiously, anyone here in northern california, specifically near Sonoma? There is a fig 'forest' at a community garden...old, old trees. Looking for their variety...longshot question.

I found it very easy to open a FedEx account in the fall and then I had to turn around and give them a new cc exp. date a short while later and that was simple, as well.  I haven't gotten a bill from my cc to see what the charge was yet, but I got a total of three small cuttings in a cardboard envelope.

noss

Tom did you ask them to ship it Fedex ground?

No they do not ship green wood cuttings anymore.

You can also use a UPS account. I have one, anyway, and they are fine using that, and I have them ship it ground, rather than overnight, and it is a ton cheaper.
