UC Davis trip UCR 143-28

Good day, This year at UC Davis, my goal was to touch and taste all of the hybrids and UCRs.  I accomplished that on this trip.  This is the first picture of my very first fig of the day at UC Davis.  It's UCR 143-28.  This fig was very sweet tasting.  It had a berry flavor to it and has an oblong shape.   Enjoy!

Dennis Looking all this figs with "number" name you just change my mind about them. Numbers have never been appealing to me as fig name, but that's changed now. Thanks Dennis

Eden, per a previous discussion, that is why I have thought about new names, such as Emerald Strawberry, because 143-5, etc just aren't sexy names - they're not even names.

Man, are you deliberately trying to piss off Martin?  Not a single dark fig...

On the other hand, more information about the numbered figs is really nice!

Jon, you are right!  Numbers aren't sexy!

And you are also wrong.  UC Davis has the right to name these things, so where does this end?  We all get the numbered cuttings, and name them what we think?  We find random figs on deserted property, and we name them after the street we found them?  This is where confusion begins.

I think you named Emerald Strawberry with an enticing description, but it is what it is.  You want 143-5, you order that.  UC Davis will not recognize Emerald Strawberry and they will not honor your order if you use that name.

Pure and simple, they need to have some kind of trademarked name, and this website probably should use its social capital to foist names that are searchable and don't deliver scientific tables and figures.

perhaps they should have numbers like 36-26-36.  some might consider those to be sexy numbers.

James,

Sexy for a fig would be 12-36-12. You want them nice and fat in the middle.

Martin doesn't like green figs? Why? He has a a bunch cool figs :-)

Lol Jon, how sexy is just 69.

How bout those figs!!!!

How about a 44, 444, 357 or 45/70 or 223?

Oh wait, wrong forum. My bad!
