UCD Barnisotte

Anyone else growing this?  I got some fat cuttings from UCD, and they're slowly but surely progressing.

It's been my slowest rooter (5-7 weeks, with only 1-2 roots/cutting), and it seems content to only grow one root at a time...but the roots that do grow are super vigorous and long.  There's a single root from one of my cuttings that's slowly branching/filling the entire container.  I'm terrified of breaking it when it becomes time to transplant!

Also, the leaves have some straight nasty FMV, but they're growing nicely enough.  It's almost like they're covered in boils.  I'll try to take some pictures when I get home.

Anyways...does the plant grow out of its FMV?  There are some older threads where folks complain about the FMV on this variety, but they don't seem to reach a conclusion.  Also...what's the consensus on flavor of those who have tasted it?  I know a few folks on here really praise it, but I'd like to cast a wider net for opinions, if I can.

I'd say the best solution for FMV from what I've seen is to hope for a healthy sucker to pop out eventually and then make that your main stem. It can take a couple of years of vigorous stimulation/fertilization to help a plant overcome fmv sufficiently.

Here we go.  UCD Barnisotte, looking rather terrible.

Some quality FMV going on.  Otherwise healthy.  Also, a string cheese wrapper.

One long root, believe it or not.  I can trace the dang thing back to the start, as well as all of its branches.

I got 2 cuttings.  I split both in half, so I've got 4 total.  2 are have been potted into the mix you see in the pictures, and the other 2 are still in the rooting bin (coconut coir).  All 4 have roots though, so I'm hopeful....I guess "root" may be more appropriate...all 4 have root...haha.

I rooted one last year. It was a slow grower in its first year. This year it took off fast and has slowed down a bit as the breba got large.

Dang.  Those are some huge figs for not being ripe.  Rumor has it that Barnisotte figs get so heavy, they actually tear open at the stem sometimes.

I have one from a few years ago. I see no signs of FMV. Just very large leaves on a 6-7 foot tall tree.
Good luck.
I think it'll "out-grow" the fmv to at least a certain degree.

I have some from USDA too. Vigorous rooter and grower. Gave them away except for one.
