UCDavis cuttings!

I ordered cuttings from UCDavis months ago and before their deadline. About when do they start shipping?

I ordered Pomegranate, Fig and Loquat. Will they wait till all is ready or ship as they are available. I set up a USPS account for the shipping but they never asked for the number will USPS automatically find and use the account?

They did ask what sort of research I am doing. My reply was I was trying to identify the best varieties for my climate and that the information would be shared with our extension office for their use and dissemination. All that is true but do you think it will be an acceptable reason to them.

I ordered in March of 2013, after the 2013 deadline, and haven't yet received my cuttings.  I do expect them to start shipping soon and I did get a confirmation that the order was in the queue after I put in an inquiry.

If I were you, I'd email them your USPS account# to use on your order ASAP, and make sure you reference the order# to attach it to.

I wouldn't want them to skip your order as they're collecting the cuttings for shipment because they didn't have that info!

I don't think they can use your USPS account. The USPS account requires a password. The instructions for ordering asks for a FEDEX or UPS account number which should be included with the order.

Hi Jake thanks. It was one of the two they asked for so I guess I was wrong on USPS maybe it was UPS.

Figaro I guess I will make an inquiry. That is a good idea and I'll send my shipping account when I find that number LOL.

Just so you know if you were turned down, you get an email... have a few from other places semi chastising me for asking for seeds and such..so far three places are a lot more sharing than seeds places..

Do they always send a confirmation? I put my order in on December 1st and did not get a confirmation.

You might have missed it, and no worries,  but I only received the confirmation AFTER I had put in an inquiry months later to make sure I was still in the queue.  The confirmation was in response to my inquiry.

Figaro, Thanks.  I just sent an inquiry. I guess it's just wait and see.

starting last yr, i guess, they sent order invoice, but i didn't get confirmation. i sent an email to confirm and it came back indicating that the order is confirmed. typically, i just wait. it's free service and if it comes, great. if not, too bad.

Bullet, I didn't really appreciate the GRIN until the government shut down. I realize now how important it is and am more grateful.

Copied and pasted from order instructions:

Orders for dormant cuttings or budwood must be received by November 1st

Your order was probably accepted but for next year. You were a month late.

Jake,  It was on November 1st, as I am now remembering doing it on my son's birthday. It won't kill me not to get them but it would be nice if I got them soon.

This year, get your order in early!  I always get mine in in June.  Then I've got no worries!

Good luck!  Hope you get your order!

Historically they have shipped in late February and early March, but in recent years it has been more like late March and early April.

last 3 yrs that i ordered, first yr, i didn't get any cuttings. more than likely i didn't put the order in right. 2nd and 3rd yr both, i got it at the end of march. the cuttings are very fresh as if they cut it right before shipping. not sure how they do it, but they always root great.

How do you request an inquiry?  Just reply back to the original order receipt confirmation?  I had replied back to that a few months back to correct something on the shipping address, but never heard back.  My original order was sent in August, and I got the receipt confirmation a few minutes later with subject "Public Order from WWW".  But it does not contain an order#.

Guess I should open a UPS account and send them them info?

EDIT:
I just emailed to "OrdersNCGR.Davis@ARS.USDA.GOV" with a copy of the order reciept asking if it was still in queue and to add my UPS account#.

Hope all is good.  If not, no biggie.  I had only ordered 4 things.  2 of which I also ordered from Jon and another I recently acquired.
