UCDAVIS CUTTINGS STUDY MATERIALS

Well, when UCDAVIS gives you cuttings they want all your notes on your study of the cuttings they gave you.. I was just wondering if anyone has ever turned any in and what they consisted of or what happens if you don't turn in enough notes???

I'de like to know more details about this subject too, It's very important. May I suggest to open a new stain about this? lets not mix subjects so it's easier to follow and find later. Thanks ;)

i sent in reports, never heard back on it. i even offered to send in Kathleen's Black, never heard back on that either. but they provide great service and i don't mind spending few moments on how the figs did in my area.

So, basically, is this step to justify their expenses ,since they send the cuttings to us free of charge but maybe they get reimbursed from IRS Tax returns? Maybe they use your report to file claims also and if any info is useful they can use it in their researches. So, no need to contact the sender of the report.
I would like to know by asking personally. I am planning to call Mari in USDavis to update my order from last year, so I'll ask her the reason why they want the results of research that some of us conduct.

All you told them was how the fig cuttings did in your area?  REALLY?
If so, that is great!!!

aaron, mary is a great lady. however, she will only pass your inquiry to the person in charge of fig things. it's that fig person who i never heard back from.

figster, i have used the cuttings to show cub scouts how to root fig cuttings. i gave them a report on how that has gone, how many boys were able to root, how many boys grew them to tree. along report on each cultivar as to how they did in our area. two boys were able to root them. my boy and another boy. my son had little help from me and he is very proud of his fig tree.

the other boys was extremely proud of his tree, until his little sisters (he has 3 of them) decided to pull the cutting out of the cup and find out what the roots look like inside of the soil mix.

it was not a formal report, just a short note on what i experienced. maybe they are looking for research paper with reference, tables, and pix and all. not sure.

Thank you bullet and appreciate the descriptive jargen surrounding your reports.  This is what I was totally looking for.  Thank you again.  And all this time I thought I was going to have to do another paper that looked like it came out of the files of Einstein or something.. "WHEW".  I will give them a good and accurate report though.  And that is really funny about the sisters. ha!  I can just see them doing it.

I just told them I using them for home garden (when they still sent for this purpose) and never sent anything in.

Thank you Chivas!

i'm scratching my head here.!!!

I have 4 years of orders under my belt and never sent one report in.  Actually it takes years to see what happens.  Most of my orders are wine grapes, like 80% and those take at least 5-12 years to determine success.  Since Pistachios thrive here, I might order some scions for grafting onto my seedlings.  I do order figs, but reports take time.
