Ultimate Height for Fig Trees

Ladies, and Gentlemen.....A question:

What do you consider the "perfect" height for your/our fig trees?  Consider problems with gathering a harvest.... storage, and  winter protection concerns, etc.

I think, personally anywhere between 6-8 feet tall...and 8 feet is pushing it.  Probably about 5-6 ft. for containerized trees.  What do you think????

I would be interested to reading your opinions, and experiences.

Im considered short fella so i keep then within reaching distance in a pot just not sure how far up i can reach i never really measure but its not a whole lot.  ; )

You nailed it with 6 to 8 feet.

Yeah anything over 8 ft in a pot should be for several reasons

I agree with everyone. Between 6 and 8 feet. Especially when it comes to winter storage, space is limited.

If you can't reach the figs to pick them witho0ut a ladder, it's tool tall.  But I am quite happy to use a ladder if need be.

I was a little surprised to read some of the answers.  I don't know why, but I just envisioned most of you growers standing on a short ladder to pick your crops...but upon reflection, I see that by your postings that a  shorter tree height is far easier to deal with.

I set my height limit to about 7-8 ft total, but try to keep the bearing branches within easy reach...and all my trees are trained into single-stem standards, with a nice rack of branches growing on top of a clear stem.  Any branches that sprout along my clear trunks, becomes cutting material.  I found that trees growing in this style,  are very easy to  train, maintain, and easy to store.

Thanks for the replies and information.

Frank me and ladders have a bad way with each other so i never would use ladder to pick the figs but thats just for me.
Your last sentence above i could not agree more.
