Under or over watering???

I need some advice, I'm finally getting some fig growth on a tree that NEVER produced a ripe fig (5yrs) this season and noticed I have some leaves curling at first and now yellowing, just today I saw about 3 leaves have fallen. I'm concerned and not sure if I'm under or over watering???  Will the figs be next?

Just an fyi, I typically give this tree anywhere from 2.5-5 gallons daily.

My first tree to produce several breba figs, baffling this tree....going from nothing to two crops. :D

It is too hot of a son.
You see we have a hot July, more than fig likes.
Your fig is healthy, but not much you can do about a leaf here and there.
Even some of my grapes do that in protest, why,we polluted the air and creating global worming!!!!
Seriously:It is the result of depletion of the ozone layer!

One quick reality check: if the new growth is not suffering in you sun and heat, then watering is fine. As long as the new growth is fine, there could be many reasons for the leaf drop, but your plant is healthy. Older leaves can be shed because they are shaded, because the plant can't support all the leaves it has, the temps have been too cool (the tree thought it was Fall), etc. The gauge of plant health is what the new leaves are doing.

Thanks for all the replies folks, I have two questions tho.....
1) will the figs continue to grow normally?
2) is it worth the effort to create some shade?

As I stated earlier, this tree was one season away from being eliminated due to no fruit bearing. I, originally, had it growing as a bush with a bunch of shoots then decided to hack down to 3 primary shoots last fall and would ya know that must have given it life again, it now has a bunch of fruit on it for such a small tree/bush and would like to see those figs mature.

The beauty of self watering containers is the ability to uptake water when needed, like an inground plant. You can't under or over water them.

I have one in ground for about 1 year now and i pinched all new growth to force the figs on it and they are starting to go now, I have similar leaves but I mulched it with coco coir and I hardly water it, but we have had a lot of heat lately and I see it on different varieties but not all show it but most are in pots some show and some don't, maybe some varieties are more susceptible to it as well?
