I am still waiting for the second fig to fully ripen. Looks like its going to be pushing honey. I can see it when i look into the eye. I will take photos of it still on tree and off split in half taste profile etc. I picked the first one too early but it was a above average fig and the best of my collection to date.

That is awesome news Richie. Thanks for the update. My cutting came back from the dead and although very small ,it's still kicking. Good to know that it's a common fig .

Very jealous! Keep us updated on the abandoned tree you found, I would take cuttings for fun and see what happens. Did you ever visit the original tree mentioned in the post?Quote:

Rmulhero, i surely will keep all posted on my find & happy to send cuttings! yes, so fun to see/ taste the fruit even from some abandoned tree. Some of these trees came from who knows where, right?! I can take my clippers & cut some this weekend. Its not dormant yet. Is that ok?
About the Burbank Vineland tree, i will (hopefully) go next weekend to check it out. Again, is it okay to take cutyings if not dormsnt? Just in case owner alliws me.
Someone mentioned "I'm jealous"...i know the feeling! For ne, looking at pics of Sister Madelines trees/figs made me want to fly back there for a few cuttings! But i must control myself. This can be a very expensive hobby (obsession?)!

Nice fig . I have a rooted tree as well but no figs this year. In a previous post, there was some speculation that this fig is an Improved Brown Turkey fig . I don't think this is true after seeing some of the photos of this fig and the leaves. Any other thoughts?

A lot of great figs have been found by cruising neighborhoods (like Figo Preto). I keep suggesting to those of you that can do this to accept subscriptions. A few of us chip in for gas and we get a few cuttings of each tree you find. Some will be great, some caprifigs and some not worth eating. It's the thrill of the hunt. :) Subscribers would have to pay priority shipping.

Some people are good at rooting green wood but many of us aren't. It seems much easier for people who live in Zone 8 or higher. This season's or last season's live wood that has turned brown or grey is much easier to root. Wood from 2 or more seasons ago will root easily but may not sprout for months to years if at all.

Woohoo, yes, it is the thrill of the hunt! Never know until you get the fruit. I mean leaves can be an good tip but the dicovery of the fruit can make the trip worthwhile!!

I see. That makes sense. Fig trees are so cool in so many ways.

There are several houses on the East side of Gould Ave. in La Canada Flintridge just north of the freeway that have a heavy planting of fig trees. They seem to have started with one house that has several large fig trees next to the street and in their yard. Several neighbors also have fig trees. One of the trees still had fruit on it around two weeks ago. I shop at the strip mall there on Foothill and drive by the fig house around once a month. One of these days I’ll find the courage to do a door knock and find out more about them.

Have another Aaron4USA fig swelling up This one us called pacific looks to be a large fig too. Its a purple fig with deep red interior hope mine looks like his but mine will be unpallenated. But its a common fig because irs pretty large and getting its color. I put them in my heated green house keeping it around 85 degrees a d 100% humidity. Cant really control humidity i live in Louisiana. Day time temps are in the high 70s night time 50's low 60s.

Art, do the leaves match Kathleen's Black? I know that KB can be slow to produce figs, the B & V seems to be doing pretty well with production.
