  I came across a craigslist post from someone offering free cuttings for pickup in Abington, PA.

  The owner was not inclined to mail any cuttings, he's just being a nice guy and offering them for free before he discards them at the end of the week.
  The owner originally got cuttings from his father-in-law's tree "years ago" and he describes them as "smaller, dark purple figs that are wonderful."
  So, if you're in the area and want to get some unk purple cuttings, it might be worth responding to his post and picking up a bunch.  (And then perhaps you'd be inclined to mail me a few...)

Greetings everyone,
I have contacted the person that offered the fig cuttings, and he still has some. I do not know how many he still has, but I am willing to go there and pick some up over this weekend to send to our fellow forum members for postage (except for you Jim ;-) ). At this stage, if you could reply in this thread to let me know if you are interested or not, that would be great. Once I gauge the interest, I will get the appropriate number of clippings this weekend. At that point I will post a message to the board with my contact info. Regarding the fig, the owner states that he does not know what cultivar the figs are, but that they come from cuttings that his father in law got from his mother's tree in South Philly more than 15 years ago. Apparently, the tree is somewhat hardy, as it has grown to almost as tall as his house, here in SE Pa. He describes the figs as prolific, dark purple-brown and 1.5-3 inches in size. Hope this is helpful.

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have been having weather issues here near Philadelphia. I was able to procure a good number of clippings from the tree owner. If you are interested, please pm me with your contact info, then I will let you know my PayPal info. Shipping will be like $6. Ong, I will have to look up international postage rates for your clippings. As always, clippings will be on a first come-first served basis. I will cut the limbs down to small size right before shipping, most likely this coming weekend. Happy figging everyone!

I propose we call this fig tree Unk Italian-Abington, perhaps later once the cuttings have fruited, we may have a better idea of what cultivar we are dealing with. What does everyone think of this name???

  The name 'unk that purple fig that Rick picked up in Abingdon after Jim suggested it after seeing it on Craig's list that came from some guy's father in law in S. Philly' would be very descriptive.  It could be shortened to Unk Tpftrpuiaajsiasiocltcfsgfilisp.  But Unk Abington would work, too.
