It's always a good feeling when you see that first bit of root on a new variety. Congratulations!

Looks promising! Hope it's a strong grower for ya.

Jennifer, congrats. Can't wait for my "Figo Preto Francisco" to root.

Hi Jenniferarino83 you scionwood looks like its going to put out more roots right under that one.
Good luck with it.

Martin,

it sure will, looks like it going to be a lot

Hey Jenn that moss looks a little to wet for my taste.
Good job otherwise.

(Edit version)

I look forward to this indeed. I love mysteries.

newandawg: I know you want other members to call it Figo Preto Francisco but I just don't agree with that name- Sorry and no offense. I am just going to call it what it is: an unknown variant, place of origin, and initials of source: Unk Madiera FC.

Tony, it was soggy... The cuttings were super dry, so I added more moisture than normal. I wrang the rest of the water out after I saw visible roots. I appreciate your reply (I came off the wrong way). Thank you for you input.

Thanks everyone. It will be a while until it fruits, I will have something to compare it with.

Jennifer

ooook

Congratulations!

I got your PM Jenn its all good thanks for the updated post.
I was actually a little thrown back at first because your always so happy go lucky.

Lol. Yes I am 99% happy go lucky. 1% of sour happen once a month. Lmao!

Your fig pal,
Jenny

Hey Jennifer, actually it doesn't really matter to me what anyone calls any of their figs. I went along with another forum member on that
name just to distinguish it from the real deal. Francisco actually called it Figo Preto in a couple of his personal emails so we just added
his name.

The last time I called it something... (we all know how that ended). Francisco in Madeira is a nice guy, but I want to be able to evaluate the Unknown and produce actual comparisons between the claim vs what it is. I don't want to get my hopes too high but I am happy. It will be interesting. If it turns out to be Brown Turkey after two years  of nurturing then I will really blow a whistle- lol

Francisco emailed me too and I have heard him call it Figo Preto but there is one already out there that has a name established.

I admit, I cringed at the thought of posting the rooted scion. But I wanted to share my results with everyone. Best of luck to your scions, I know you are excited :-)  It took exactly 30 days to get results, no heat, I just shoved orchid moss in ziplock bags and threw them underneath the bed, I open it for fresh air, blew the bag up once a week. My bedroom is at a constant 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

I noticed one of my OTHER variety developed signs of mold with "forget and neglect" method. But it was remedied with Hydrogen Peroxide. Then I dipped in Bee's wax to seal the ends. One week later, I found roots.

I really do need to watch my humidity levels. I was thinking about getting a cheapo gadget.

Congratulations Jennifer!

Tony: what does less moist moss taste like? ;)

Thank you for sharing.  Please keep us update about this variety.

@Jo-Ann I thought we where friends.  :)

My cuttings are so full of the fluffy white stuff on the bark, literally all over. Your cuttings look so "clean" (free of the fluffy white stuff). Am I doing something wrong or am I not doing something I should be doing??

Maybe too much moisture?

Lenticels I think... seems like it might be a gas exchange problem more than a moisture problem. Most bigger cuttings had more of it, other cuttings under very similar conditions (moisture and air exchange) looked almost clean.

BTW, great job Jennifer! patience evades me...how do you do it for 30 Days?!?!

Unknown Maderia Island cutting is VIGOROUS. Here is some leaves. Still way to young but at least we have something
