Unknown Carini breba (finally) - updated 7/30/13

Almost a month later than last year, I finally got my first 2013 breba from my 3 year old in-ground tree.  I probably should have picked it tomorrow, but like most of us, we're impatient.  This one is almost double the size of last year's breba.
Flavor was sweet, rich and delicious.  I still say the brebas taste better than main crop.  I counted about 17 main crop figs I should be getting by September.  There's one more breba that will hopefully ripen soon.  Here are the pics for those growing this unknown.

7/30/13 UPDATE

I've added the 2nd and final breba today.  This one was elongated from the start.  It was only 1/2 the size of the first one, but the fruit filled out all the way to the skin, unlike the first one.  Very tasty.
Shown in the last 2 pictures.  It looked very similar to last year's breba.

Frank , this Carini looks fantastic! So happy the breba were that flavorful.   My two are growing nicely , can't wait for them to come of age.
Thanks for sharing .

Frank:

Mine is growing well also.  Thanks for the photos.  Very nice!

It's a strong grower. Looking forward to fruit. Thank you again, Frank.

Hey Frank, good news all around. My cuttings and now nice trees are doing VERY well considering the oppressive heat here on the East Coast, DELMARVA area. My cuttings rooted nicely, went into cups smoothly, in to small pots and are now growing and seem to be soaking in the sun, heat and high humidity levels. Thanks for sharing your cuttings and for sharing pix of your figs. Can't wait to savor figgies from my new trees. Regards,

Great to hear, guys!  I hope it produces the flavor for you worth keeping.

Added 2 pictures showing the 2nd breba I picked today.

Thanks Daniel.  My main crop figs haven't changed in size for a while, but I'm confident they'll start putting on some size in August.
That would be a treat if you get 1st year figs from those cuttings!
By the way, the Desert King cuttings you gave me last winter are thriving now.  Out of the 50 or so varieties I have, DK has surpassed all of them in growth.  They suddenly took off like a weed in July!

Thank you so much for the pictures Frank. My 3 are going like gangbusters and are all in 5 gallon buckets now. It is awfully nice to see the fruit I'll get.
Is it okay if I use the pictures you took in my plant files program for future reference?

Please do, Tami!  Can't wait to hear how they taste in Texas.

Thank you Frank! Hopefully I can fill you in an post pictures next year.

Frank,

Nice photos, this is a strong grower for me too.

Thanks Frank, can't wait to try mine....they look really delicious !!!

Soon!

Yea, Calvin!  Let us know how it tastes out in CO.  Although my in ground died to the ground this past winter, I now have over 50 figs on the new growth this year.  I'd say they'll ripen in about a month.

This is the only breba that decided to grow beyond the initial figlet stage.

My first breba ever. I was very happy with it, nothing wrong with this fig and I would be happy with a tree full of them. Tender skin, thick jammy texture, and no syrup as you can see. The flavor was pretty much straight-up figgy. So, now I can't wait to try the main crop and see what the thoughts about them are.  I will leave all the brebas on this one and hope for a big early crop each year. Then I can also taste them at different stages of ripeness. Franks were enjoyed 2-4 days earlier than this one by the looks of it.

Sorry for the giant pictures, I sent them from my phone, not sure how to make them smaller through it.

I also forgot to add that there was zero seed crunch and it looked bigger than I thought it would be, it only weighed 27 grams.

Thanks for the update Calvin!  Hopefully others will add their report.
The flesh on yours looks so different than mine.  Look at my profile pic and you'll see how mine turn out.  Different location perhaps?

I think it's partly location and partly timing. The air is pretty dry here on average so I think the skin developes a bit differently, and I let mine hang on the tree till dead ripe. Had I picked it 2-3 days earlier, I bet the inside would have looke a bit different. We'll see next year, hopefully I'll have more brebas so I can taste them at different stages.

Calvin looks like a great fig I got some cuttings from Frank my tree is about 4 ft tall I am hoping next year to start getting a couple of figs off of her , thanks again Frank for the cuttings

Thanks for sending this out!  I hope I get to try it next year.   :)
