Unknown cuttings from Ebay

These cuttings are currently listed on ebay.  I chatted with the gentleman selling them for a few days before buying a set.  Guess we'll see what I ended up with in a few years.  I was thinking the green looked a lot like White Triana.   What do y'all think?

He's not a forum member (yet).  I did point him in our direction.

Wow, does it look productive!  Is the 5th image from the left a different fig or was it taken at a different time of development?  The 2nd and 5th images don't look very much alike.  It will be interesting to hear how this one does for you.

No ideas Rewton.  Those are the pictures posted on the ebay listing.  He has a BUNCH of them up right now.

Oh, actually it probably is a different fig.  He said he has a purple fig too (as you can see by the dark figs in the bowls of figs)

I've gotten a number of figs from ebay over the past few years. It can be a crap-shoot, but I've been satisfied. That fig seems to have lots of fruits.

Have fun. :)

Hi Meghan,
Given the time of year, what are your plans for green cuttings? Will you try to root directly, refrigerate, etc.? (I'm a newby.)
Thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick. Since these are green I've already set them up in a rooting bin. Once they root I'll grow them inside over winter and move them out late Feb / March when threat of frost us past.

Curious what this is, the leaf pattern does not look like White Triana.  His pictures are a mix of his "White greek" and his Italian Purple. The Italian one looks like the one that has been sold as cuttings all year for 10/$24 on Ebay from a neighborhood in the Bronx.

Sorry,

All I can say for now is:
"stay away from this ebay guy".

I may explain why later...

Edit 10/8/2013:

My issue is that the 3 cuttings I got are of poor quality.
They are very thin, less than a pencil, and consisting of
very young wood, mainly green-skin and white-pith.
These will be very hard to root successfully.
My experience with similar cuttings was that they tend
to rot, usually in the later stages of the rooting process.

Maybe it was just me that got unlucky.
I am working to correct the problem.
I hope that others did and/or will do better than me.

Also, there seems to be an error in the item description
and tittle; one says 7 tip cuttings and the other says 3.

No negative comments seen online, what is the issue?

Meghan..That is an outstanding looking Fig!! Hopefully, you will have great Luck with them. The seller seems to be pretty good dealer 100%

Frank from Bama

Thanks Frank. Well I can say they are fig cuttings. The seller was very quick to respond and genuinely admitted that he didn't know alot about figs. So I guess in two years we'll see what I got. Not too worried about it though. They weren't expensive and he didn't try and claim to have some fancy or rare variety.

Agree, no published  issue with his listing or his business practices online, no need to bash him unless someone has had a bad experience they wish to share.
