Unknown Cuttings Package

In the next 3-4 weeks or so I will be trimming my figs. I have many Cold Hardy (uncovered zone 6) Unknown varieties that I don't have much info on, but they do need to be trimmed to get them into the greenhouse for the winter. These are all varieties I have collected in the NJ/NY area. I know I have a bunch of Mt Aetna types, Yellow Greek, Purple Portugese, many Italian varieties, Brunswick types, Celeste types, and many others. I'm just wondering if anyone would be interested in an assorted package of a few varieties. This way I can prune and package at the same time. Here's what I'm thinking. 6 varieties, 3 cuttings per variety, $25 including shipping. If interested just PM me. If you would prefer to trade let me know.

Here we go again Aaron. You tempting me with figs I have to say no to...man I hate that!
Did you happen to get any information, samples, pictures of the Yellow Greek this year? The Dark Naples looks intriguing too! Did you get the prosciutto fig going? I think I will be definitely looking to get some of these varieties from you next fall.  We bought a new house and I have TONS to do before we move in this coming spring, no time for cuttings this winter. The flip side is I'm going to have more room for figs and other fruit trees in the not so distant future!

Way to be so generous and spread the fig love.

These are great pics!! Congrats on your new place!

Are these all self pollinators?

Someday.  Someday when I own 10+ acres of land, I'll have a dang orchard of all these unknowns (and knowns, for that matter).  Today is not that day.  Alas.

Thanks for the offer though!  Great newbie starter package, and a good chance to score some cold hardy varieties for those of you trying to find some good in ground candidates up north.

@Terryworm,
It is probably safe to assume these figs are not caprifigs, and thus do not need any kind of pollination.  Go for it man!

Count me in for a package please :)

Hey aaron, any pics of the Plainfield and the unknown yellow greek by any chance? ?

Pics added. The S Plainfield is similar to the Natalina. Small, dark, Chicago Hardy type.

Definitely no wasp around here in NJ. No pollination required.

The Yellow Greek may need a longer season or more sun than where the parent plant is. I did find one fig, but not quite ripe. The last two winters were very bad here and the tree has not been covered. If covered in sure it would perform much better.

The Prosciutto fig is from the same owner of Naples Dark and Naples Yellow. It ripens late, may be better in a higher zone than mine. No ripe figs at all in early October.

Count me in for a package thanks.

Unknowns are my favorite!  Nice gesture Aaron!

Still have more. :-)

Aaron you have a good deal, they sound great, wish I didn't have too many trees already, I would jump at the chance. Everyone should jump at the chance of getting this deal, especially the newbies. I can't imagine going on a fig hunt and finding so many winners. Good going, good deal.

Can ship overseas Aaron?

I stopped at another house today. That had 2 unknown varieties. The owners were Palestinian (I think). They had no history on the figs except that they came from their brother in law. 2 more mysteries. One was purple, the other yellow. I guess we'll find out in a year or two.

Look at post #40 for the U.Greek Yellow fig pictures. That one was perfectly ripe. My first year plant grew vigorously and had several figs ripen. The figs are very rich and creamy with mild sweetness. I am sure it will get better with age.

Thanks Mohan....do you know how weak I am?.....I've tried to be strong but one more post like yours......I'll hold up the white flag and put my name on the list! Seriously, a name of a fig does not make the fig. A great tasting unknown is much more rewarding than a named fancy looking fig with average taste. Good post Mohan, it should help others with their decision.

Sound like a good deal, I'm in. PM sent.

Oooh, that sounds great, ADelmanto!  I ride the train to and from work daily and on my way I see sooooo many fig trees!  I finally got off the train at one of the stations and took some cuttings from a tree that is behind a restaurant but on the street side (didn't need permission).  I think they are rotting...but I will go get another two cuttings this weekend!  I have seen the figs every summer and they look deliciously purple.  Anyway, I want to do what you do...lol

Thank you, Aaron!  PM sent earlier.

I'd be down for a package.  Quick question though.  When you are trying to propogate your cuttings are you suppose to put them in a cold area or in a warm area?

Store cuttings in the crisper of the fridge till spring and when it warms up in the spring start your cuttings.

I collected air layers yesterday. They are U. Natalina BI and U. Italian Yellow BI. I have these as cuttings, but if you prefer, I could send you these. Here's what I'm thinking, I could send you one or both of these along with the 6 other varieties. These air layers are an average of 5-6' tall so shipping is an issue. To add 1 variety would be an additional $20, to add both varieties would be an additional $40. PM me if interested.
