Unknown cuttings trade ?

I have posted these pics. before, and now have a bunch of cuttings. If you are interested in trading let me know. I cut these from a friends tree which is where the ones I have planted came from. His dad planted them forty some odd years ago and he just wanted them cut down. He is not into figs like we are and is tired of mowing around them. That's all I know of on the history, but they are very sweet. Please feel free to contact me by forum or e mail .

Peters honey?

Hi Mike
I have some cuttings that I would trade, send me a message

Hello Mike.

Mike where is the original tree that you got the cuttings from, growing?? Such as what growing zone????

Also, can you describe the flavor and indicate the level of sweetness on a scale of from 1 to 10?

Thanks. Bob

Bob,
I live in northeast GA in zone 7 at least that's what the zone finder says now. Which is what I thought it was anyway, but once before it said 8. Anyway it gets fairly cold here at least by my standards below 70 "COLD" LOL. But we do see some low teens . To me the flavor is good but mild kind of like honeydew melon with maybe some raw honey on it. Gee that sounds weird huh, but its a good tasting fig just not a real strong figgy( cat pee overtone). Which is what I taste in some figs and it might just be me. The sweetness on a scale of 1 to 10 when they are dead ripe is about a 9. The ones pictured could have used a couple more days to get dead ripe. I hope this helps.

Mike.

Thanks for the additional information Mike.

I still have some left. After about a week or so from now I will take what is left and put them in a mass rooting bed until this fall and pot them up. I have enjoyed trading these , and talked to some very nice people. Just want to say thank you to all. I am looking to buy some Martin's Unknown cuttings, if anybody has some.

God Bless.
Mike

Mike, I found a similar tree that has been called a green italian, that looks very similar to yours. The green italian is grown at a local Pennsylvanian Dutch farmer. It bears heavily two crops, the first crop is very large about the size pictured with the hand, the main crop is a little smaller.

Here's the Green Italian,

Looks like it could be a match Bass.  Either way, both are great looking figs.

We don't seem to have any trouble with the birds bothering the green figs, so there is no need to net them, which is another big plus for this fig.

Mike's wife personally delivered the best looking cuttings I have ever seen.  We live about 25 miles apart, so she brought them to my office.  That was exceptionally nice of her, and greatly appreciated.  They sent enough cuttings for many families, so I have been sharing them with other gardeners also well.  We never let anything go to waste, especially such a nice looking fig.

Thanks again Mike.  We truly appreciate your sharing this unique fig, and hope the ones we sent will grow well for you too.

Very best wishes.

My pleasure John. Thank you Bass for the help in trying to identify this. Either way way its a good fig and just want to spread it around.
