Unknown Fig

This is a surprise. A green Fig that tastes as good, maybe better, than Black Madeira.

Hope Martin is taking note.

Jon,

What ever happened to the one that had the peach taste?
You said you had it for a few years and it was the first time it fruited. I think you said it started from a seed.

Not sure which one that was.

Looks juicy and yummy. Does it have a name?

Jon,

It was dark in color and you got it from the front yard, this I do remember.
I do think you said you had it for about four or five years and it was the first time you ever tried it.

To sum it up,
It is an unknown, so the next time you sample an unknown one might just taste like a peach.

Oh no Jon another one we must have!!!!!

I agree with Barry I need one too. Looks like a green black madeira any relation?

The funny thing is this: it tastes as good as a Black Madeira -- because it is a Black Madeira. It just did not develop the purple/black color that is normal, even though it is fully and perfectly (yes, perfectly) ripe. The back side of the fig has more purple, but nothing close to what is "normal".

Such is the transient nature of figs as they respond to changing conditions in their environment. Just when you think you know a fig, it looks radically different.

You think it could be a Possible sport? Color mutation?

No, just a different year.

Kinda relieved, it is hard to keep up with all these super figs!!!!

Hey Jon, I'd bet it's Smith. To me Smith taste almost better than BM. Hands down! BM has a unique flavor. Smith is very sweet with a dark rich flavor. I think you got yourself a Smith fig.

Agreed, BLB. I had been ready to call it good at about 10 varieties, but I keep hearing about "one more" and can feel myself picking up speed on the slippery slope.
