The funny thing is this: it tastes as good as a Black Madeira -- because it is a Black Madeira. It just did not develop the purple/black color that is normal, even though it is fully and perfectly (yes, perfectly) ripe. The back side of the fig has more purple, but nothing close to what is "normal".
Such is the transient nature of figs as they respond to changing conditions in their environment. Just when you think you know a fig, it looks radically different.
