Unknown "not adriatic"

I am still looking to get this fig identified. I bought it labeled as adriatic but is is clearly something else. Any guesses are welcome. here are some new pictures. This fig must be very wrinkled before it is very palatable. If the fig is not completely ripe it has an awful flavor- kid of hard to describe. When they are fully ripe the flavor is a very rich berry. I hope someone out there can ID it. Thanks for looking.

I'm bumping this because it deserves consideration from those who know.  I'm interested in getting the ID on this one too!  I have a bunch of unknowns growing, but time will tell.......

Thank you for the bump. This is a very interesting fig.

Have you checked out the photos on the Figs4Fun Varietals page?  Here's a link to the photos there of Adriatic.  The leaf shape and fruit look pretty similar to yours.   http://figs4fun.com/Thumbnail_Adriatic.html

I posted this once before and the response was an absolute "no" on being an adriatic fig. These figs tend to have a more purple exterior to them than what is in the picture. If my tree got more sun it would probably color up even more. Thank you for the response. I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to chime in.

The photos that look similar to yours are from figs grown in northern California.  If you grow them in Texas they are not going to look exactly the same.  They are close enough that I wouldn't rule it out as being Adriatic.  Especially the leaf in the first photo and the fruit from September 2008.

I am actually growing them in San Diego not far from Encancto Farms Nursery. I looked back at the pictures you linked to in your post and did see a similarity in shape and interior color to those growing at Davis. However, the exterior color is just not close.

Don't know why I thought that you were in Texas.  Must of got that part mixed up with a different post.

Figs can surprise you with how variable they can be.  I've seen hardy chicago figs range in color from purple to dark brown to light brown.   But whatever variety it is I hope it does good for.
