This should be an interesting topic. The following are 1 year old seedlings that I started from seeds, here in Florida. What should I expect from these seedlings that were produced w/out a fig wasp?

I think regardless of the location you will get (statistically speaking) 
one third Common females, one third males, and one third females needing pollination to ripe.

You exact numbers might be totally different since your quantity is small.

That's interesting, actually good news, I thought all would be compost. It's just fun doing something other than rooting. Thanks for the info.

Just consider this an experiment. At least, now you know that you can grow fig trees from seeds.

It has been an experience. Probably won't get a common fig, but, oh well. They are from an UNK purple fig.

you can always graft another variety onto it, and gain time for production. roots established, you don't have to fight gnats..

That will be interesting to find out what you get . Are you sure that the wasps did not do their mess in there ?
I have as well 10 growing and I have no wasp here in Zone7. Some say mine would be clones of the mother ... Ho well, I'll find out, - that is if I'm able to keep them alive and that's tricky !
At the size of yours, I would consider planting them in ground - that is what I will be doing. But mine are for now weak pencils with weak leaves that do burn with the sun so I still have to protect them in the house.
So to get back to your experience, you should have clones of the mother ! Is the mother tree worth your work ?
If you are looking into production better buy known strains, that's a lot easier !

best of luck, i think you have a (small chance) but a chance to get figs out of one.
what part of florida are you from?
if you are close to tampa you should take a drive down to tarpon springs (greek town)
some crazy greek might have brought the wasp over from greece with him.
if not you will find some good cuttings... ;-))

JDS- I will keep you updated of the results, a clone would be nice, the UNK is a good fig, I have no experience growing figs from seed so this is going to be a surprise. I have way too many names varieties so if the seedlings turn out to be nothing then I would accept that as having fun. They will go in ground soon, I am in zone 10 so the cold has no effect on growth.

Hi Andreas, I live inland of Ft Myers on the border of 10A. I knew about Tarpon Springs Greek community, I asked someone to check the place out to see if there any old fig trees, maybe some day I will drive north and check, about a 3 hour drive, thanks for the info

Could they? Sure....will they?  nope.   The wasps are very species specific.  Even the wasp that pollinates the strangler fig won't pollinate our other native fig (the name escapes me) and same holds true the other way around.  But think of it this way....the people in CA are constantly eating dead wasps,maggots and wasp feces :)   See?  Makes you feel better about not having the wasp doesn't it?

i had a plate of figs in front of me... you made me put it away and go for 2 desserts. baklava and galaktoboureko


@ wayney come on no guts no glory.
i drove to miami actualy key largo from st.petersburg and back just for a good rumrunner. 
(ok i was only 20 so no brains at the time)
but you get the idea.!!!

Hey, I drove non-stop from FL to NH, 1400+ miles, well I did stop for gas but ate while driving, and yes.... I was 26 and yes no brains. I will get there, I need to. Do you come to FL very often? I wish I could find some UNK like the rare GMs, I would spread them out to everyone for only the cost of postage. I can not understand when someone finds a large UNK fig tree and sells the cuttings for outrageous prices, I guess there is possibly more than one reason.

figs are not that expensive here... its mostly postage.
i am sorry to say that i have not come back after i left in 1997
wife does not want to move to the states,
but we will go to Disney world at some point. my 6 year old boy asks every time my family comes to visit.
