Forum members, I wrote about a local find in Charlotte. Usually the local finds here turn out to be Eastern BT or some variant of Celeste. But this is one is different.

I shared some cuttings with 15 or so forum members. If you have this cultivar growing, protect them. Good quality.

I am impressed with the Williams dark. 1st year fruit - super nice. It's definitely a keeper with great qualities.

Cold hardy since the mother tree is in zone 7a unprotected for a very long time.

Super tight eye. Does not split on rain since I pulled the fruits right after a heavy rain in Charlotte.

The fig is shaped like a chestnut and looks very pretty with shades of dark brown, olive and purple.

Mohan, sorry if I missed an earlier thread on this fig but do you have photos of the leaves?  Have you tried to get an ID on it?  The fruit (on the outside anyway) reminds me of the Sal's-Corleone family.  It would also be nice to know how large the figs are.

OK, just now found the old thread!  The leaves on the mother tree do not look like the Sal'sC family so cancel that thought.

Hello Rewton, I will post the picture of the leaves tomorrow. The leaves on my first year tree have leaves from single lobe to 5 lobes.

I'd love to try those also Mohan, if the new owners of the tree are willing to let you gather more cuttings. I'm in zone 7a also.

I am excited to try this one. My young plant has about one dozen figs on it, but they are at least a month away from being ripe. I had a second successful rooted cutting that I gave to my brother-in-law in Tennessee. He has already had ripe fruit that he said were excellent

Really interesting and get me excited about adding this one to my field in south Louisiana. Would like to be,added to the list. Will trade some Louisiana unknown that are really extra good. Have a dwarf black fig with thick maple tree shape leaves

I saw this fig last week and am definitely interested, if you ever get cuttings add me to the list please.

Great find. That definitely looks like a keeper. I am also in 7a and am always looking for a new variety that does well in our zone. Keep me in mind if cutting become available later in the season.

I will make a trip to the owner of the mother tree this fall. I hope the tree is still there to take some cuttings. If not the members may have to wait another year to get cuttings from my young trees that will put on some growth for trimming.
