Unkown Dark Greek 2015

This is the Navid strain. This fig really has developed since last season and makes me excited for how it will develop in years to come. This year it got bigger, earlier, and nearly solid with a tiny bit of syrupiness to it. Oh, and I think this would be a good one for rain and bugs. The eye is about as tightly closed as they come.
It still isn't an early fig, but much earlier than last year, and it didn't get a head start this year.

Very nice. Congrats and thanks for sharing!

What a great looking fig! Picture perfect!

Hey Cavin, Now that's a beautiful Fig!! I love the skin color and the flesh color as well! You rascal you, now I got to go out in my Backyard with a flashlight and see if I missed picking any Figs today ! : )

LOL, Frank..it's been a long time since I was called a rascal.

I have to add, last night I was out with my head lamp on and ate one of these, I think(hope!) this tree tipped it's hand as to what is to come. It was a monumental moment in my fig tasting experience. I had already eaten a few figs that were good..LdA, Petit Negra RT, Hardy Chicago and I was expecting the same from this fig as had been this harvest season. WRONG!!
You know how when you have something so good, you keep replaying it in your head so you don't lose the sensation, yep..that's how good it was. Best single fig I have ever had. The flavor was like a mix between the best fresh strawberry pie and best cherry pie I have ever tasted (pie cherry, not sweet cherry).  The fig was soft and ripe with cracks in the skin, the texture was somewhere between juicy and jammy and flavor lingered long. MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    And just to prove it to myself, a few minutes later when my feet touched the ground again I had a VdB. I need to explain too, the UDG and VdB are both 3yr old trees, the VdB is having it's 1st big year and although they are good figs they aren't quite there yet, age I'm sure will help it out. Anyway, back to the story, it wasn't fair at all and I shouldn't even have had the VdB afterwards, it just erased the wonderful taste in my mouth from the UDG.

I have yet to sample Black Madeira, I258, Preto, and a mature verified Smith. But let me tell you what, I pray that wasn't a fluke last night and I get more of them. I can't believe it can get better than that!

Hey Calvin, that's a good story, hope they just keep getting better for you! That really is a beautiful Fig! Keep the photos coming! I bet my neighbors think " there's that crazy man fooling around those trees in his backyard with a flashlight, What's he looking for" LOL......: )

I get home late from work 3 nights a week, and since it has been getting dark earlier my head lamp has become an essential tool in fig harvesting.   :)

Sounds like a great fig!

It only gets better, Kalvin. This Unknown has outperform many rare, named and expensive variants that I have had or currently growing. Only dark variant that I would keep if I had to get rid of my dark colored figs.

Navid.

That's great to hear! I was hoping you would add to this thread Navid. UDG is one of the few varieties that I have started a second of.

I was lucky enough to secure some cuttings this year. I'm really excited about this variety. THANKS NAVID!!!!!

I purchased an Unk Dark Greek tree 2 years ago from a grower in Iowa. I sent an email to find out the origin of his tree, still waiting. Anyways, no fruit yet but it is real healthy, growing good and I pulled a couple of leaves to share, it is getting ready for the winter hibernation.

What do you think, not fully formed, close enough or maybe another Unk Dark Greek? We will know for sure next year when it fruits.
