Unripe fig removal in storage

Finally rolled my potted figs into the garage for the winter but I didn"t know whether or not to take off the unripe figs that are still attached. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Remove them. They wont ripen properly and will just sap energy from the tree.

I think they're dead but I remove them so mold doesn't form.

Hi fignatic,
Remove them or they may rot during the winter... and rot the stem where they are attached or even the trunk and you'll loose the stems above .
If they make it through the winter, in Zone7, they are likely to get frost damage and won't ripen properly ... At least this is my experience from winter 2013-2014 .
So this year, I did as the years before winter 2013-2014 and knocked the remaining figs.

Thanks for the input. I didn't want to knock them off if they would help the tree winter in any way.

Last year I left two small figs on one of my small potted trees.  They were bigger than fig embryos but not very large -- not nearly to the point where they reached the size where they were "stalled out" and just waiting to swell and ripen.  They were much smaller than that.  Anyway, one dried up and fell off over the winter, but one held on.  It went on to become my first ripe fig of this season.  It was excellent.
I'm sure the advice to knock off the big ones is spot on.  If you have a couple of trees and want to experiment a little, you could try to leave some very, very small ones on.
I originally got the idea from this video (link below), which someone posted in a thread over 2 years ago.  I didn't save the link at the time, but I just happened to come across it today!!!!
