I wouldn't cut off dead tips until after the fig has leafed out. Some places there will be more dead than you thought, some places less.

Bob, die back branches seem to heal better if left alone... I am with you... I leave them and eventually they fall off.
Grasa,Thanks for the posting of this video. Very interesting, lots of work! I did not realize the extent some folks went to in protecting their precious fig trees. Damaging frost or freeze, for a night or two, is not uncommon here in Southern California. For that reason, I grabbed a few light weight frost blankets for my little ones, which I plan on leaving out all winter. Just in case insurance to have on hand! Figure I will just throw over the top of them until frost passes.
