Unwanted figs trees

I have read about several members who have mentioned giving up on a fig tree because of FMV or flavor issues. I don't like to hear about trees being pulled out and dumped in the trash. I am interested in trying to get some of these trees before they reach the trash bin. If there are trees out there on the chopping block I would be interested in paying shipping to get the tree to San Diego to give it a second chance. I was thinking of having the tree topped and heavily root pruned to make the shipping cost less. I will not be trying to turn any profit from this experiment. I am only interested in taking unwanted trees from other climates to see if they can do better in San Diego. Please PM me if you have any interest.

If only you had posted this back in April.........

I'll keep you in mind next time.

Navid.

Have a Brooklyn Dark cutting that is going in the trash soon.

In May it put out four leaves and since then it has halted growing. My other cuttings have grown 2 feet since then except this one.

If you want it, it's yours. I'll send it bare root (it has tons of roots).

James,

For some reason can not send you any PMs. I shipped out your plant this morning you should receive it either tomorrow or Thursday.

Also, I did not sent it completely bare root, since I didn't want it to stress too much in this hot weather.

I am not sure why you can't send any private messages to me. I will check to see if the private message function is blocked on my account. Thank you again for your kindness. I will make sure to pass this goodwill along through the forum.

You are welcome. Just give it lots of TLC and keep it in a shaded area for a while.

Your little friend arrived today. The plant is in great condition. Thank you again.

No problem James. You got any LSU Purples? Got some extra ones in 5-7 gallon pots, they need to go too.

Navid

I have one LSU purple from Jon in a 2 gallon pot. If you can find some one that does not have one they should get them first. otherwise, I would love to have them. However, I insist on paying shipping.

James,

You got a PM.

Navid, I sent you an email

Hi Navid, I am officially a fig owner stocker now :). found this forum through google search. Thanks for feedback on gardenweb.

I am also interested in any fig plants that you have. If you still have any left please let me know.

Thanks.

LSU purple. Would love to have one of those in honor of my dad he lived in the Baton Rouge, LA area and loved yelling for the Tigers.

Macmike,

LSU had a hybridizing prorgam for some time and produced several good figs. There are other members who ahve much mreo info about it than I do, but some of the more well known figs are Tiger, LSU Purple, LSU Golden Celeste aka Champaigne (or maybe those 2 are different there is some debate) Orourke - Improved Celeste (May also be 2 different varieties) LSU Yellow, or Brandy ( May also be 2 different figs) etc. LSU figs can be a whole section of your collection in time.  Welcome to the forum. Hope you find it aas rewarding as I have.
