Update 11/21/2014: Still lots of Hardy Chicago cuttings for postage available

11/21/14 update

For those who paid by 11/18 your cuttings went out on 11/19 at night.  You should all have them by 11/25.  If not PM me for your tracking #.  In the meantime, still plenty of cuttings left.

Hardy Chicago produces a lot of great figs.  I'm in zone 6 and most years it doesn't die to the ground although last year it did.  It produced figs right up to the hard freeze we had.  If left on until they were both drooping and soft they still tasted good ripening in 60 degree (daytime high) weather.  Most years I start getting figs in July but this year, with record cold almost freezing nights in late June/early July I didn't get figs until late August or early Sept.  My version in my soil has a bit of a cherry flavor.  YMMV.

If you want a package of cuttings PP me $8.56 as a purchase, not a gift.  Let the fees come out of the 8.56.  A purchase gives me your address, a gift does not.  PP to:

[rjc+paypal]

Include your name, address and something like HC Cuttings in the comments so I know what the payment is for.

You'll get a USPS small flat rate box or envelope with 3-5 cuttings depending on size and how many requests I get.  I don't have a working computer and they wont be mailed until I do.  I typically get over 100 requests and fill them all.

11/11/2014

Still plenty left.  Those who paid on or before 11/9 should have an email or PM with a photo of your tracking #.  If you paid and haven't gotten one let me know via PM.  Most of you got 4 cuttings unless you're a VIP.

Great offer, Bob.  And a great opportunity for people to get a delicious variety.  You can't go wrong here.

Nice of you to offer this to everyone!

Is it just one big tree or do you have a hedge going? 300-500 cuttings seems like a lot of wood.

Thanks, Bob.
I lost mine (in pot) this past winter and have been wondering about whether to replace it. You solved that problem.

Bob, it is very nice of you!
Great offer!

It's a bush.  I tried to keep it to 5' tall but there were 15 or so stems that were 9+ feet tall and many others in the 4-6 foot range.  I have well over 200 feet of wood.

I haven't allowed my HC to fruit yet, but I have to say the leaves are very different from my other figs. They are darker green, thicker, and have a slight peach fuzz. I think they are very attractive. If I didn't already have a few, I'd take you up on your generous offer.

Thanks for this offer!

Great offer. I have 1 already and also have a couple I started from cuttings a couple months ago. These root very easy, taste great and are very productive. A great all around fig especially for the cooler climates. Mine died all the way back this past winter as well. I didnt enjoy any figs this year but will make up for it next year :).

That's pretty awesome, I bet you get a lot of nice fruit off of that bush.

I'm anxious for my HC's to get to that point, they're still young and small in comparison (maybe 10-15' of wood). Maybe in a couple of years.

I like the flavor and cold hardiness of HC so much that I was thinking of making a 50' hedge with 10 or 15 plants. I still want to experiment with many dozens of other varieties, but I want a big bulk provider to make sure I satisfy my fig tooth.

The key is to bury it deeply and mulch heavily so if there is a bad freeze there are lots of nodes protected underground.

Still lots of cuttings available

Great offer, Bob. Thanks.

Thank you for your kind offer!

Sweet deal Bob, thanks...

Bump for update

Thank you very much!  I look forward to receiving them!

I don't have a place to put them this year but I just want to post after this past weekend I would take a lump of coal. :)
O-H!

You can keep the cuttings in the fridge until you're ready to root them.

Bob,

I just sent you a PP. I am a complete newbie, a rook! I am looking forward to getting started. Thanks for making these available.
