Update: Blanche de Sable

For those who remember last year a discovery of an unknown fig occurred at the start of August 2012. Since we were unable to ID the variety and the mother was destroyed from road improvement the project was labeled as Blanche de Sable (White Sand) for the soil the mother tree was found in.

Last year I was able to get three trees to make it through the winter and an occurrence of several being smashed during Hurricane Sandy. This year I let new growth reach almost 30" and used these limbs to produce cuttings.

I am glad to report that I have just potted six of the first batch. Once they are established 1 will be up for auction toward the F4F Foundation.

Will have pics of ripe fruit here in about two - three weeks as the limb that I let stay has several figs. At that time I will also post pic of the new BdS.

If you received cutting last year, I would love to hear how your trees are doing. Not counting those I am currently at 9 potted treed (counting the new six).

Good job!  Congratulations!   I'm always delighted when I hear a fig was saved.

3 are already spoken for.

Soni,

Yes, it is always a good feeling, when one knows their efforts in conservation are successful.

All are currently spoken for.

Quarter for scale and including the eye of the fig.

What did it taste like?

The cutting you so graciously sent is doing well and is currently 14-16" as I have kept it pinched to develop roots.  Figs next year.

@Bob,

Flavor is subject this year with all figs in the area from the large amount of rain.
Profile was still similar to last year, but severely reduced.

@Danny
Glad to hear one is in Texas!

Going to attempt some pics this morning. Most are developing on schedule and are putting out 2 and 3 branches.
