Update to Panache post Airlayer

Just wanted to start new post for reference. I decided to just leave tree alone and start an air layer. If interested here is link to other post
http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=5109786

I slid bottle down small shoot and put some long fiber Spag Moss in bottom about an inch to help prevent potting mix from just coming out when watering or drying up like a little filter, watered it and tamped down with but of a screw driver then filled with moistened potting mix (my own made from Al's recipe) I DID NOT Girdle as I felt stem was to skinny about pencil thick not much more. Took me 5 minutes as I had cut bottle and mix prepared.
Her are some pics for reference

Looks good, keep us posted when you are ready to cut it and pot it.
congrats

Hi Sal,
the airlayer thing is fun . Im sure soon you will have another panache plant.
I hate to beat a dead horse but if once you have another and want to experiment with the parent plant cut the top growth off one season when you still have lot of growing season left.
Im not trying to sound like a know it all only i go by what i seen in response
in my plants.

When sometimes our fig plant grow like whips its best to cut the top because those buds on top have the apical dominance and keep most of the lower nodes "dormant" and not sprouting anything or very minor. Most will grow and look like if i may a palm tree with a skiny main trunk.

By cutting the top of main your sending downwards the energy (Auxins) that will get plant bushier down lower.

Either way i hope to see pictures of your airlayer and eventual fruit, i hope mine makes it out of dormancy and fruits this season and we can share pictures.

Sal, do keep us posted.  I air-layered mine last fall without girdling and it did just fine. Good luck with it.

Thanks for all the advice I'm probably going to put this in ground in the coming weeks and check out the height then. If to tall for my liking I just chop off about 2 feet of main trunk
