I've got a young plant, no figs this year. Came from JR which has me a bit concerned as I bought a few from him including Brandy which turned out to have dark figs and is supposed to be a light fig. I'm concerned he's gotten varieties mixed up.

mike, if you have time, what causes fruit drop? is it all genetic? or are cultural factors involved?

I have a large tree that came from Sidney Thibodeaux who worked at LSU,this fig was named after him........The fruit is very large dark brown in color and very sweet almost honey taste.

I don't have one but it's high on my wish list.  I hope you figure out what's causing the fruit to drop before ripening.  Keep us posted, please.

@ Brian -- That is a beautiful tree. I heard there is a LSU Brown variant, perhaps it is Thibodeaux. Any
clues about this Brian.

Hello Paully, no ,I heard of a LSU Brown, but never saw one,Sidney Thibodeaux gave me the Thibodeaux tree and that's what he called it,he was one of the workers at the LSU fig program and he liked the tree very much.......

Brian, have you had fruit drop? Just curious if it is inherent
with it. Mine is a three year old tree. Maybe it will get over it.

Hello Mike,my tree is a little older and never had a problem with dropping fruit, the tree was always loaded with fruit and stayed on tree till ripe.......the only negative I see with the tree, cause of the fruit being so large,it will split in very  heavy rain periods.

Brian thanks. I will hold on to it and see if it improves.

hey Mike ,I would,its a keeper for me ...........

Brian, thanks for the clarification.

Hey guys, the young thibodaux that I got from you brian seems to be holding the figs so far. They are getting big and all i did was up-pot it since I got it a few months ago. I hope they get ripe, the only one that fell was the other day a little figglet turned reddish purple and fell off.

Ryan, please keep us posted as they progress.

I sure will mike, I'm hoping it won't be much longer, it seems like the little figs never really went through a stagnet stage like most do, it seems like they grew slow but constant. I check them everyday so I may be wrong about that but it seems that way.

Thanks to Bass, I do a very small rooted starter ...

Brian thanks for sharing the history of the Thibadeaux tree with us.  I assume that means that the tree I and others got from you are from this tree too.  Is that correct.

thanks

Yes,that is correct goss........

Brian, the one I got from you is doing good, it grew a good bit, I decided to layer the side shoot, I will be seperating it in the next week or two.

hey Ryan, yes I saw the pics and was really surprised to see how much it grew and to see all of the figs .......you are doing a great job

Thanks, hopefully I'll get to taste a couple soon.

Picked this hunk today and it weighed in at 2.08 oz or 59.1 g. It was just sweet enough, with a
creamy faint strawberry flavor. It had just the slightest little crunch.  About an 8 on a 1-10. I think it will be a keeper. I look for it to get even better.

Oh man, that sure looks good mike. Mine still look the same as the pics above, I hope it won't be much longer.

Ryan, let me know how it taste when it decides to come around.
