uppotted my peters honey to 17 gal swp.

This is the last of my peters honey trees. I gave away 8 of these during the summer. This one i had put in a 5 gal swp, but it never really "took off". So i decided to up it to a 17 gal swp to how it does. When I pulled it out, it had roots hanging down into the reservoir. Also all around the sides.

Hope it likes it new home.

Those are some beautiful healthy figs!

Out of the 2 you gave me, I'm giving one to Meghan.  Neither of my two are really flourishing but they may be like yours.  I may up pot one of them and see what it looks like.  Thanks for sharing the pics.  Where is the cheapest place you've found to get the 17 gal buckets?

James - would you mind describing how you made the 17 gallon SWPs?  Thanks.

Rewton.. yeah.. if i can find the thread again.. lol..

Jules.  I've had reports back on a few of those Peter's Honey.

One was given to our British friend.  It's in ground now and i'm told is doing fabulous.  That's after she almost killed it in the pot.
One given to my neighbor right behind me died because his wife didn't water it when he was out of town.
One was given to a co-worker, and it seems to be doing fairly good.
The one I gave away a couple weeks ago had 4 or 5 figs on it, they still haven't ripened.  Doubt they will.  That was the best one of the bunch.

I've lost contact with all the others.  They never call..

Rewton,

I roughly followed the design posted by JustFigs here
http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1278149470&postcount=35

some variations I did:

I cut 4.5" from the top of a 5 gal bucket for the support base instead of the bottom.  I plan to get 2 support bases from the same bucket for 2 more SIP's.
I didn't bother securing the fill tube to the side of the container.
I used landscape cloth (weed block.  but not the plasticy feeling stuff) in the bottom of the pot to keep soil from escaping into the water.
I used silcone sealant to "glue" the plastic to the top. (We'll see how that works out long term)

Though I used a 6" basic plastic pot from Home Depot for the wick, it sticks up about 3 inches inside the pot.  For the next one, I'm going to use one of those happy meal Halloween buckets that McD is giving out right now. They are a little wider than the 6" pot and are the perfect height.  I have 4 of them and trying to find about 10 more before they're gone from McD.  I think they will work out very well.

Those 2 tubs in the pic were given to me by a co-worker.  But I bought 2 dark blue ones at Home Depo for about $5.47 each.
And Walmart has an 8 pack of black tubs for 43.76.

Thanks to you and JustFigs for the step-by-step instructions.  I'll definitely try making a couple of these this winter.
