USDA Cuttings on their way!

I just got an email from Fed Ex that my cuttings should arrive Thu (If they're not delayed by snow).  I asked them to ship fed ex ground and they did.  Should be way cheaper.  Of course I still have no way of knowing what they're sending  :)

Wow!  I didn't get any message.  It's usually a surprise, and usually in April!  Wow!

Enjoy Bob...spring fever is in the air...hopefully I will be getting my UC Davis delivery toward the end of March.  Best wishes.

I hope they root well for you, you got everything you asked for and you post pictures of the beauties later on.

Bob hope you get all the dark scionwood you requested.  ; )

FMV delivered by Fedex

uh oh.. i'm not ready for more cuttings.. not yet!

I can't remember when it was but I once received a shipping notice but my cuttings were sent until at least a month later.  They had printed the shipping label (to be charged to my FedEx account), but were still just putting paperwork together.  I'd be a bit surprised (but pleasantly) that they have already shipped cuttings.

Bob, Is this the last year they're giving out cuttings at the UCD station?
Were you able to take most of your figs when you moved last year?

Sounds earlier than i was expecting.  (My first year of requesting any cuttings from that source).  I sure hope that Fedex account that I created for the purpose actually works.  I had meant to test it out, but never did.  I imagine that if they go to use the account and it has some kind of problem, they'll probably just cancel the shipment to me.  Guess I'll see...

Mike...if FedEx gave you an account number when you opened that account, and you put that number on your cuttings application, then there is no reason that it should not ship.  When UC Davis sent me confirmation that my request had been accepted and processed, they also put a note down at the bottom thanking me for giving them my UPS account number.  Did you receive a confirmation e-mail from UC Davis??

I put in my order and sent them my number after the fact. I never got a response so all I can do is hope, wait, and see what happens.

If it doesn't happen this year, there is always 2014!

@Vince -- yes, they sent me a confirmation email.  But I doubt they checked whether the Fedex account actually "works".  Just a rare flash of pessimism showing through I guess :-).   I work in IT (Info Technology), where things that haven't been tested should generally be assumed to not work correctly.  :-)     And this from a guy (me) who is inherently an optimist!   Maybe I'll test it, or maybe I'll instead just "embrace the uncertainty" of it all and see what happens!

Mike

The package weighs 2 lbs so I think they have the actual cuttings set aside.

Mike..."embracing the uncertainty"...hhmmm...sounds like a real zen experience...    :)   :)

Package was picked up by FedEx.  They're on their way!

Donald, I sold almost all my duplicates and took the rest with me.  I doubt that it's the last year but they did say they're not shipping to home gardeners.

I stated the intended use for my order was home garden and I received a confirmation for my order awhile back so my fingers are crossed.

I thought about it but decided to not order any from them. I thought I had enough already... now I'm feeling a bit jealous of you all, and sad to not be getting any...  But I really do have more than enough figs as it is. And I'll have to keep telling myself that... ;)

Good luck everyone in your rooting adventures!

On the USDA site there is a shipping statement:
"When orders are shipped within the U.S, it is necessary for the receipent to obtain and submit a Fed Ex or UPS account number.  Fed Ex account numbers may be obtained online at http://www.fedex.com/. UPS account numbers may be online athttp://www.ups.com/."

A question: will they ship anything if the account was not provided at the ordering time?

You'd have to ask them.  Or wait and see  :)

Hey I decided to check my inbox and I have an email saying my package is on the way. I had deleted the email by accident. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight. This is my first year growing figs and ordering from them. Can't believe it.
